deviantART ...and one more that didn't even make it on to deviantART because it was that bad. In the process of editing lineart and re-coloring it now (didn't have time to finish before the show), will post later.
So, yeah. Big gallery thing, one night only, me and all my classmates. Bunch of people took my business cards, but no emails yet.
Favorite part of the evening (apart from friends, family, and free food) was probably watching people's reactions to my stuff.
drayexmachina and I had an informal competition going to see who could shock/horrify the most people. She won with her gore; my homogay simply couldn't compete in this day and age, though there were some interesting moments.
People kept bringing their children in to the gallery, which was weird, and then they would bring their kids over to look at my stuff and I would be like NO NO NO YOU ARE NOT QUITE OLD ENOUGH FOR THIS D: but from across the room. So it was mostly me having a nervous face and hopping up and down impotently.
(Not that I was the only person there with child-inappropriate content. One of D-Ray's pieces, for example, was a child surrounded by severed animal heads. Another was a vomiting vampire. In related news
you should probably check out her stuff. Also,
Kacie's work. Just... Kacie's work. She doesn't have any of her recent stuff up on her dA, but let's just say it's a blend of my sexuality with D-Ray's violence and leave it at that.)
But yeah, my homogay was shocking enough to prevent a newscast. Like, they set up the camera and the newscaster in my little corner, started filming, then looked at the wall behind them, made faces, and packed up. Whoops.
There were also a few comments along the lines of "Why are they making Moby Dick gay? Moby Dick's not gay!" In retrospect, I should have torn out the first page of
Chapter 11: Nightgown and pinned it on the wall next to my stuff.
On the other hand, one delightful little old man complimented my work and pointed out which parts of the book I'd drawn inspiration from. (He told me he's read it three times. I believe him.) There was also another man closer to my age who admired the Queequeg-and-Ishmael-cuddling-in-bed piece and said "I'd like a picture of me and my girl like that." He took a card, but like I said, haven't heard from anyone yet.
Didn't bring my camera to the show because of a temporary attack of terminal stupid on my part, but loads of other people took pictures and some of them have shown up on facebook. Like this one:
From left to right, D-Ray, me, Gregg, and Kacie. Gregg and I are wearing D-Ray's feather boa because lulz.
In conclusion, the illustration show! Boy, did it ever happen!
