There's a thing going around FaceBook. The rules are as follows:

It's National Book Week. The rules: Grab the closest book to you. Go to page 56. Copy the 5th sentence as your status. Don't mention the book. Post these rules as part of your status.

The nearest book next to me is, naturally, Moby Dick. I go to turn to page 56... and it's not there ( Read more... )

The chapters in Moby Dick seem to follow a sort of pattern. Typically, three chapters of Ishmael babbling about science or history will go by before we get one chapter of plot that makes the whole thing worthwhile. If this ratio could be reversed, I would greatly appreciate it.
