I spent the last weekend reading Robert Holdstock's Mythago Wood and dreaming of primeval forests and shadowy man-figures. The book is haunting.

Finished watching Angel. Season 5 is just great. Probably some of the best work Whedon has ever done. It was entirely worth it to suffer through season 4 for this.

Took my violin out of the case last night. Tuned it. Put it back in the case. Maybe some actual playing will happen in the next couple of days. It's scary. The new Doctor is in (I am talking about Doctor Who, of course). I have to say, as much as I love David Tennant, Matt Smith is pretty good. There is much of the old Doctor in him (still fond of running, it seems), which makes the transition easier. Also, I think the decision to have this episode written by Moffat was very wise.

I finished Anam Thubten's No Self, No Problem. I picked it up at the Tibet House during the retreat last week. It's a simple book. It is honest and very to the point (probably because he wrote it in English). In a sense, it is a brutal book that tells you to get off your ass and stop delaying you enlightenment. His message is: you are already ( Read more... )

I am not dead! At least, not entirely. Last week I had The Plague (tm). It started as an annoying cough that I thought was due to dryness. It then progressed into unpleasant fuzzyness in my head right in the middle of the office meeting. Finished reading Ronald Hutton's Triumph of the Moon. It's a great book. It's importance cannot really be emphasized enough. Great research, very well-written. Reads quite easily despite being fairly detailed.

As a result, plundered my lovely neighbourhood Japanese grocery store (thank gods for living in New York) and got the following loot: saba (mackerel) in miso, some tofu, somen, edamame, and a couple of other small things.
