My ploy about trying to keep my electric bill low in this heat might have to be adjusted a bit by possibly cranking up the A/C. I've had it set on 80°F, and made up the difference by running fans pointed at me, and dressing "light", since I'm by myself in the house now ( Read more... )

In my case, it's 99°F outside, I have my thermostat set on 80°F, have a couple fans pointed at me, and am dressed "lightly", to try to keep my electric bill down as much as possible...

Don't plug electric heaters into a power strip/surge protector. I was sitting here at the desktop, and suddenly everything went dark! Breaker switch on power strip flipped off.

Bad thing, only place available to plug the heater DIRECTLY into an outlet is on the other side of the room. :-(

Got up early this morning, went to Lowe's, bought a 10-pack of electrical outlets and two new power strips. Son replaced the outlet in his room and two power strips, since we weren't really sure which was causing all the electronics on that side of his room to suddenly shut down and the adapter in the outlet to get hot. Power went out for about half an hour a little before midnight last night. Unusual, since the weather was good. At least it came back on before the house started getting too cold.

Electricity went out for around 3 minutes last night during the storm. It went out again this morning for nearly 20 minutes, with the sun shining. Both times, had to reset the time and date on the living room computer. Guess it's time to replace the bios battery.

Electricians just left. Bad outlet on fridge and freezer. Loose splice in the attic and a bad breaker on the other two dead wall outlets. Final cost to fix everything, including them having to go outside, remove the louver, climb into the attic, and trace the wiring, $160.
