PART ONE

It’s been two weeks since the surgery. The operation was a success. Sungmin’s left kidney had been transplanted to Kyuhyun without complications. Fortunately, Kyuhyun’s body didn’t reject Sungmin’s kidney. The younger was recuperating, finally transferred to a private room from the ICU. Sungmin, on the other hand, was on his final stages of recovery, now pregnant at seven months.

~

Kyuhyun’s eyes slowly fluttered open, immediately shutting back as he was greeted with too much brightness. His body felt too weak, as if he had been sleeping for such a long time. Then the image of a dozen blue pills flashed through his mind and his eyes shot open again. There was so much white that he wondered if he was indeed dead already, at the same time amused that he ended up in heaven despite his less than holy actions in the past. Something stirred on his left and Kyuhyun slowly turned to look at his side, only to be welcomed by the unruly brown hair that he loved to smell so much above a lump of pink that  weirdly looked like the sweatshirt he gave Sungmin on his last birthday.

Kyuhyun gently tugged his hand off the other’s grasp, signaling the other that he was already conscious.

Sungmin jolted up all of a sudden, eyes wide as saucers as he looked up to his husband, tears immediately brimming at his eyes.

“Kyu! You’re alive!” Sungmin squealed as he huggled the poor man.

“Ow-Ouch! Min, that hurts!” Kyuhyun coughed as Sungmin’s head bumped the oxygen mask he had on.

“Oops. I’m sorry Kyu! Just got excited!” Sungmin giggled as he plopped himself down back on his seat.

“W-What happened?” Kyuhyun’s voice was barely audible but Sungmin heard it nonetheless.

“Well. Let me see. You overdosed on sleeping pills. Good thing it was the day when your Starcraft 2 thingy arrived and the delivery boy immediately noticed that all the lights were all turned on yet no one was answering. So, as a concerned citizen, he rang up 911 and you were brought to the hospital immediately. You were treated with dialysis but your kidneys have already failed so I donated mine to you and now you’re well again!” Sungmin bounced a little on his chair as he recalled his tale as if he was just telling Changmin some storybook story.

“Sungmin. You didn’t have to. I-I mean, I’m so---“ Kyuhyun started, teary eyed all of a sudden.

“Non-sense! Of course I had to. I’m your husband, your soul mate. It turns out that we’re a match in more ways than one, after all. Isn’t that cool or what?” Sungmin wiggled his eyebrows, attempting to cheer up the younger who looked like he was about to cry any minute.

“Sungmin--- I… I’m so sorry. I know that I did you wrong. Heck, all I ever did was to cause you pain. I don’t deserve you, Min. I’m really sorry. I know sorry is not enough for everything that I did but I’m saying it anyway. I’ve held back too much words in the past so I’m changing that now. I would totally understand if you would want to leave me after this. I just want you to know that I love you, Min. Even if you don’t feel the same way anymore, just let me say it. I almost died without letting you know that so now I’m telling you, I love you I love you I love you I lo---hmppph.” Kyuhyun’s words were cut when Sungmin all but ripped the oxygen mask off his face and a frantic kiss was pressed onto his lips.

“I know, Kyu. I know. I love you too.” Sungmin whispered as they broke apart, leaving Kyuhyun in a daze. “Oh, wait! I got you something!” Sungmin continued as he giddily reached into his back pocket, taking out a pink journal.

“Uh. I appreciate the effort but, what is this, Min?”” Kyuhyun asked as he eyed the bejeweled diary.

“It’s Key!” Sungmin rolled his eyes at his husband, as if it was something he should’ve known already.

“Come again?” Kyuhyun tried once more, still confused.

“Key is your newest diary! After Jjong and Dubu! Understand?” Sungmin clarified, a sheepish smile ever present on his face.

“Wait… How did you know about Jjong and Dubu?” Kyuhyun was frantic, a steady blush creeping onto his cheeks.

“N’awww don’t be shy Kyunnie, I know. I read everything you wrote on Dubu. I understand.” Sungmin assured his husband, pinching his cheeks as Kyuhyun continued to sulk.

“Oh well. I guess nothing can be done now. At least I wouldn’t have to explain to you anymore.” Kyuhyun conceded as he gave his lover a half-hearted glare.

“Yeah. Silly Kyu! Soooo. You had a crush on me ever since you were a freshman?” Sungmin taunted, bursting into laughter as Kyuhyun’s face turned beet red.

“Sungmin!” Kyuhyun shrieked indignantly.

“Okay okay! I won’t tease you anymore. Just… just get well soon, okay? You have got to be discharged before Sandeullie comes out.” Sungmin muttered nonchalantly as he smoothened the sheets over his husband’s legs.

“Sandeullie? Sandeul? Who?” Kyuhyun stuttered, utterly confused.

Sungmin merely stood up and hiked his shirt up, revealing his round belly for Kyuhyun to see.

“I-I-I love you so much, Min!” It was all Kyuhyun could say as he fought the tears that threatened to escape his eyes once more.

Truly, Sungmin was his miracle, in more ways than one.

“And I love you too, Kyu. But seriously, get your butt back up as soon as possible. We still have ten more to go.” Sungmin said playfully as he edged in closer to the bed and pecked Kyuhyun’s cheek.

“Ten what?” Kyuhyun said, clearly puzzled.

“Didn’t you say you wanted a dozen babies?” Sungmin laughed out loud at the look of shock on Kyuhyun’s face.

“So. That’s the game you wanna play? Come’re!” Kyuhyun growled as he recovered, tugging Sungmin by the shirt as he kissed him with renewed fervor.

Sungmin’s fingers threaded themselves on Kyuhyun’s locks while the younger snaked his arms around his lover’s waist. The position they were in was awkward in so many levels yet the kiss they shared was anything but. In fact, it was better than all previous kisses they had for it now had the element that it seemed to have lacked in the past - the awareness that their love is mutual, that is.

Now that everything’s out in the open, Kyuhyun could only feel thankful for everything. After all, not everyone gets to have a chance at reprieve.

Kyuhyun promises to make sure that he doesn't mess up this time around.
