Today I put together the rag quilt pieces that I cut out yesterday. It just lap size but I wanted a small project to try first. It went together surprisingly fast. In fact I think it took longer to wash and dry it than it did to sew it. Before I make another I will buy a pair of spring loaded scissors, my hands were pretty tired by the time I finished snipping all the seam allowances. I'm sure it wasn't the best thing for my paper snips either. Here is the finished project:
I discovered that front loading washing machines are not the best for assisting in the fraying process. They don't agitate so they are much more gentle on fabric. It will probably take a few trips throught washing and drying process to get the edges to fray more.
It was fun to make and now I'm thinking that I'd like to make a queen size rag quilt for the bed in the guest bedroom. I have some fat quarters that I'm going to make rag quilt tote bags. The colours are bright like the quilt I made today so they should make fun, funky tote bags.
I finally slept last night. I went to sleep quickly without a sleeping pill and only woke a couple of times. I made a point of not looking at the clock so that I wouldn't stress about the time. I felt quite rested in the morning, but I'm starting to lose steam now. I imagine that I will need several good nights before I'm caught up.
Hubby should be home this evening and we have a long weekend coming up as Monday is Family Day here in Alberta. I'm hoping that we will have an opportunity to go see the movie The King's Speech. I just finished reading a book with the same title although it was more of a biographical account of the speech therapist Lionel Logue.
