A trip to town

May 23, 2006 00:52

We have been staying home a lot the past few days. When we have to drive from River Bend to Madison frequently we have to fill the gas tank every two days and we usually have at least one meal out. We are keeping our trips down to the essential medical visits.

Today we met a friend for lunch, we picked him up at his new place of employment on the east side near I-90. We are not familiar with eating places on that side of town but he steered us to a BBQ take out place that had a few tables. Bull's BBQ Take Out, we all had the pulled pork sandwiches with a side. The pork was good and the sauce tasty. We had been meaning to meet with A since March but somehow never managed to have a lunch time available. We like to catch up with what is going on in each other's lives. He is also from Oregon originally.

Then I went to my hearing exam. The test was quick, it only took about 30 minutes. First headphones and sounds in my right ear and then left, next headphones that rested on the bones next to my ears to test conductance I guess. Then the audiologist said words for me to repeat. Most of my hearing is in the normal range, there is a drop off at about 4,000 but gradual and not extreme. They don't even look at hearing aids until hearing drops below 2000. So my hearing is actually pretty good for a person my age.

We then went to a few stores looking for an air purifier. Strangely enough Target had the most variety. I still am not sure what would be the best for our circumstances.

We stopped by Borders to buy a few books and magazines. I buy Science Fiction and Fantasy paperbacks and Wayfinder buys photography magazines. I now have a really good collection of unread books.

We met our friend C at Bandung (Indonesian Restaurant) for dinner. This has become a tradition now. We take her their for her birthday. We really enjoy the food and atmosphere. Her daughter and husband were able to join us for the celebration.
We had a variety of dishes that were all beautifully presented and very tasty. Someday we are going to order the ristaffel. I indulged myself and had a glass of the plum wine. I normally don't care for sweet wines but I make an exception for plum wine. I tried a dish withe tempe and green beans which was tasty. Wayfinder had the lamb curry type dish I usually have ordered, C had her usual catfish plus lumpia (eggroll).

I am continuing to read aloud the biography of Benjamin Franklin. We are now up to 1775 and the Second Continental Congress. My daytime book group is reading about 50 pages a week and I need to stay ahead as I won't have much reading time the next week. I also have a book to read for my Thursday evening book group and another I want to finish before WisCon. I won't have much time for LJ until next week.
