The Segway "Personal Transporter" has been a bit of a mystery since it was first announced back in 2001. While the inventor predicted that cities would be designed around it, so far its main uses have been for tour groups and cops (of both the mall and beat varieties). Down in the US, Rep. Peter King (R-NY, Chair of the House Homeland Security Committee) has introducted H.R. 607, the “Broadband for First Responders Act of 2011.” This would allocate a nation-wide "Public Safety broadband network" in the 700MHz range for use by first-responders (police, fire, EMS). A report has emerged that a soldier coming back from Afghanistan had his nail clippers seized at Indianapolis Airport during a stopover.
