Takami's Birthday and Making Anpan

Feb 10, 2010 11:51

January 8th was Takami's Birthday. I bought her some cute coffee mugs and a cook book with a lot of pictures that I thought she'd like and we had a special dinner over at her house with Teddy, me, her, her husband Shu, her friend Keiko and her husband Yutaka and her newly arrived friends from Niigata Prefecture (I forget the woman's name but her husband was Tsutomu.) We made chili and takoyaki (with no 'tako', which is Japanese for 'octopus'). Keiko made a really cute cake and Takami's other friend made some sekihan (rice with adzuki beans).

Takami's friend, me, Takami and Keiko:

The cute takoyaki maker!

Pour in the batter:

Let it cook a while:

Move the skewer around the holes to flip the dumplings:

All of us making takoyaki:

All the balls are flipped:

On the plate:

Add takoyaki sauce and aonori:

Teddy took a picture of me with all the other couples:

Keiko's cute cake! She made the chocolate words:

Unfortunately, I had to leave her house fairly early (around 9 or 10) because I had to take my Middle School Math and Science PRAXISes the next day - both of which I passed, BTW! Go me!

Three Fridays ago, we made some paninis:

Us with our paninis:

Two Fridays ago, we made veggie fajitas, guacamole, tortilla chips (from tortillas, not from scratch, because I forgot to buy some, LOL) and anpan (bean filled buns).

I'm pretty proud of how pretty this picture of our lunch turned out:

Takami demonstrating how to make anpan. First, make circles with the dough and roll little balls of bean paste. Put the paste on the dough:

Pinch the dough shut:

Make it pretty and put it seam side down in the baking dish:

And somehow - I don't have a picture of the finished buns. LOL.

My next post will be blizzard-related!
