I admit, I love tejj (a nice Ethiopan honey wine), but several of my recent attempts to find good bottled tejj has been a complete pain in my ass, and only one bottle that I've found could even be considered "okay" -- others were esentially white wine with some honey in it, or they were overpowered by a very chemical "sweetness".

I'm amazed ...

Berbere + pineapple = surprisingly good.

While nytemarewulf and I watched the Top Chef finale Carl insisted that he lacked the ability to be a chef, but I insist that he has a wonderful sense of what flavours work together, and that was proven tonight with the pineapple.

Today was an attempt to make Doro Wat. The stew was way too thin, and outside of the obvious spice of the berbere, the taste (as Carl pointed out) was "blasé". Perhaps not enough onions; I've seen another recipe that asks for garlic and tomato paste, and I might try this in the future ( Read more... )
