In sad news, the woman who I was watching NippyToes for has passed away after a long, valiant battle with cancer. I think she was only 45. She was a very cheerful, upbeat person who didn't allow life to get her down -- despite it all (and she went through a ton in her last few years). We did the massive exam of Tiel Invasion birds today. The vet was very nice and she was very happy to share information on all sorts of topics. (Got some hints for helping Kiwi.) We did blood draws on 18 cockatiels and 2 Indian Ringnecks, and the vet will run standard tests on all of them and then a few will have more extensive work-ups. She ( Read more... )

I have 7 (1 pied, 1 whiteface and 5 normal, all males) cockatiels from the Tiel Invasion staying with me this evening. They were with someone who couldn't keep so many any more, so they're staying with me overnight til I can drive them onward to their next home. Man, they are DUSTY. Well, we did it... We got all the birds in and checked over and into new cages and many are already in new foster homes. It was a blur, but, looks like we had just over 125 cockatiels and 13 IRNs. I'd have thought that 75 lbs of bird food would be a LOT of bird food. And it kinda did seem that way when it was in a 50 lb bag and a 25 lb bag. Just got word from the rescue folks that someone has upwards of 100-150 cockatiels and approximately 15 indian ringnecks that will be coming to the rescue in approximately 2 weeks.
