Halloween was good. I'm finally coming down from my Kit Kat high. It was a quiet weekend overall. Given I was so tired I slept 12 hours Friday night, I think I was due a laid-back weekend. We only had maybe 30 trick-or-treaters, the least ever at my house. Our town now sponsors a “safe night” at a local park with candy/entertainment for the kids ( Read more... )

Life’s been busy lately. The last few weekends I’ve either been out of town, taking care of the niece/nephew or had visiting relatives in town. I didn't feel well this weekend but managed some necessary errands, getting a birthday gift to an aunt and taking care of an injured rescue kitten. We’ve had a scary couple days with my niece. She’s seen several doctors including an infectious disease doctor. She has a rash that looks like welts but isn’t raised, just hot to the touch. Her symptoms included fever, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain. She does have a urinary tract infection and a high white blood cell count which is just ( Read more... )

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day.

My family’s still dealing with the aftermath of my cousin’s death in June. She was laid to rest exactly 14 weeks after my Uncle Clayton’s funeral. At least, I hope she’s finally at rest. I can’t imagine the level of anguish that would drive someone to suicide.

NOTE: I just read what I've written below the cut, and have to warn readers it all sounds quite depressing. It's probably too much information and more of my family history than anyone wants to know.
