Life’s been busy lately. The last few weekends I’ve either been out of town, taking care of the niece/nephew or had visiting relatives in town. I didn't feel well this weekend but managed some necessary errands, getting a birthday gift to an aunt and taking care of an injured rescue kitten. I’ve been dealing with an upper respiratory infection since last week and don’t feel any better after starting antibiotics on Friday. While I’m used to having headaches, the one I’ve had this past week is probably the worst I’ve ever experienced. I’ll save the extensive subject of my other health issues for another post.

The family has had a rush of medical happenings lately, too. Two weeks ago Mom was cleared by the orthopedic doctor, four months after her broken collarbone. Last week she did an overnight sleep apnea test and will have a cardiac catheterization soon as a precautionary measure. My sister and I had planned to travel to Louisville last weekend while my nephew was there for the state academic competition. Those plans changed when my brother-in-law started having chest pains and related problems which resulted in a trip to the ER during the night and a hospital stay. He had a cardiac stress test this week and those results were good. He’s still feeling poorly though and doesn’t look well. The beaufriend had a doctor’s appt. on Friday and now he’s being scheduled for a stress test next Monday. The B-I-L is 37 and the beaufriend is 39. Since my sister and I are each 6 years older than our respective fellows, I’m tempted to joke that we’re wearing out these younger men. Although with the way I’ve been feeling lately, maybe dating a younger guy is taking its toll on me.

rachet gave me ‘pink’ in the colour meme circulating last week. I’ve always thought pink might possibly be my least favorite colour but I was happy to discover I could compile mostly positive things in my list of ten things I like/love pertaining to that colour (or dislike :P). I had most of this list completed before the headache from hell intensified last week.

1. I find the distinct colour of Pepto Bismol a bit nauseating. I was given it whenever I had a tummy ache as a child and I now associate that shade of pink with unpleasant stomach issues. At some point I finally convinced my mother to stop dosing me with that heaping spoon of Pepto by showing her how just the smell of it could make me throw up even when I was well. The smell of it still makes my stomach clench.

2. I found Umbridge’s love of pink to be amusing. Her love of kittens was a little disturbing though, given her lack of compassion for creatures.

3. Cheshire Cat, a favorite character from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The original illustrations of the mischievous kitteh were pencil drawings by John Tenniel in the 1865 novel. It was in the 1951 Disney animated adaptation that the animated cat’s colouring was first depicted as pink and purple stripes. Tim Burton’s take on the Cheshire Cat is understandably darker than Disney’s.

4. Piglet! I’ve always adored all things from the world of Winnie the Pooh. Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. "Pooh!" he whispered. "Yes, Piglet?" "Nothing," said Piglet, taking Pooh's paw. "I just wanted to be sure of you."

5. The pink colour of cherry blossoms when they bloom in the spring.

6. Pretty in Pink, the movie. Jon Cryer will always be Duckie.

7. Nature’s pink hues found in the sky during sunrises and sunsets.

8. Pink ribbons, the internationally recognized symbol of hope and awareness in the fight against breast cancer.

9. Pinks in the musical world - Alecia Moore, aka Pink, and Pink Floyd.

10. The colour pink now reminds me of my niece. So, here’s a pic spam for sugar and spice and sweet things, pink and nice.
