So, if anyone's been reading my posts recently, they're usually little snipets about history, or short random thoughts but few actual updates. This is because I have lots of reading to do, and I always feel guilty when I want to hop on LJ, thinking, "If I have time to update on LJ, I really have time to get 25(ish) more pages read about Muslim Spain..." and then I go read, thinking I'll get to LJ when I have less homework that needs doing, keeping a list on my marker board of things that (eventually) need writing about. I'll write the list here:
~Moving in, unpacking, apartment
~Christmas/birthday presents with Casey
~Bryce's visit
~my new classes and professors
~Obama inauguration
~LOST
~my A-S presentation
~12th Night!
~Casey's truck
~Casey's family visiting
~Amy's first car!
So you see, there's much to discuss. I'm just going to take each topic one at a time when I have five minutes here and there, while still hopefully updating about my day-to-day life more often. Because "The strongest memory is weaker than the palest ink" and this crazy time in my life is worth preserving! I also haven't written much at all since winter break in my real diary - should get on that too.
So, what have I done today? Got up, ate oatmeal, and read 50 pages in Muslim Spain and Portugal. Ugggghhh this book needs less political/military history, and more of the socio-cultural history that I'm much more interested in. I'm glad I'm taking this Medieval Spain class though.
Also, I had been thinking about giving some of my older clothes that are no longer 'in style' to goodwill, clearin out some of the clutter, and I have, but there were a few things I had been hesitant to get rid of, even though I haven't worn them out recently, because I used to like them so much. Today, since I'm just sitting around the apartment, I put on this blue sweater I LOVED in highschool that is (because of its short length and slightly flared sleeves) not "in style" anymore, but I remember after seeing myself in it, how much I really loved it when it was in style and why I always thought I looked pretty in it. Because I do! Just, in a kind of late 90s/early 2000s kind of way. But hell I am enjoying wearing it now regardless of current style, and I've decided to keep the few things I still have that, despite being rather late 90s looking, I really enjoyed. Partly for sentimental reasons, and partly to protest the fact that styles change every few years, which is dumb.
