Okay, not AS productive as I'd hoped, but the book I finished was really dense. And I couldn't whip through it because I LOVE IT! I find myself so inspired by the Annales school, even if the movement is already over.
Social history vs. just political history?
Considering geography and the climate in history?
Incorporating interdisciplinary work from other social sciences like sociology, linguistics, and psychology?
YES! YES! YES! I am so excited to see all the things I believe about how history should be practiced originating in this movement.
I'm SO EXCITED to talk about this in Theory class tomorrow. I'm liking this class so much more than I thought I would, because it's making me see History in a totally new way. (and I'm realizing how much of it is shaped by Cornell professors.) And some of the people in my class are so very intelligent, and I like hearing the witty things they say. When I'm a doctoral student I hope I also come off that intelligent to the first year masters students.
Also, Andrew looks like Will Tippen. Who, as we know, has a bomb in his head! Or, in Andrew's case, lots of great history facts.
My Saturday is going to be AWESOME. Homework in the morning of course, but then lunch in St. Louis and art museum in Forest Park time with LINDA! Yes, childhood friend Linda! That will be a fun reunion. And then in the evening, perhaps a dinner and fancy fun hotel time with Danielle and Casey for the fancy event Danielle's going to for work. Looking forward to this weekend, FOR SURE.
Jon Stewart is hilarious. Thanks for saying all the things we need said! You too Stephen Colbert! Thanks for pointing out all this absurdity!
Danielle and I went grocery shopping today, cause we were SO out of essential things like, bread, milk, and cheese. Mmm cheese. I like shopping with Danielle, we have a good time. And then later I distracted her with chatting while she tried to write a letter to Arielle on my monkey stationary. I like talking with Danielle because I feel like we can talk about anything, and she makes sense to me and says intelligent things and isn't insane. Which is great in a friendship!
We made a delicious dinner tonight, whole wheat pasta in a Classico vodka tomato sauce with delicious chicken mixed in. Mmmm as mom might say, "delicico."
