So, after many times of wanting to, I've finally left a comment on the got medieval guy's blog. He had an anecdote asking for the 7 most important words/concepts associated with the Middle Ages. The playful word challenge came after he asked a group of yale students to think of words associated with "medieval," and all they could think of were words about knights and their accoutrements. Anyway,
his post asked us, "If you're a medievalist, either amateur or academic, consider this a challenge: What are the seven things that people ought to think of when they think of the Middle Ages?"
So, while I came up with a post it of many things, my 7 were -
Manuscripts
Charlemagne
Oath Swearing
Al-Andalus
Medieval Warm Period
William the Conquerer
12th Century Renaissance
I think those are the most important/defining things/people/events of the Middle Ages. I like the 12th century Renaissance because it encompasses lots of things I would have written down. Haha. I also wanted to include Crusades, vernacular languages, Vikings, not feudalism, the stirrup, Germanic law codes, heresies, and the papacy. And of course Knights, troubadours, horses, and castles. Those are important too. Anyway, I'm excited to be a medievalist.
