Rex's wading pool is technically finished. On I think Wednesday morning, I went out at sunrise, before the sun was really up or hot, and fixed the pond liner to make everything even. Then I filled it up with water. Unfortunately, it also has a LOT of grit in it, that will have to be gradually filtered out. Mostly the grit sinks to the bottom ( Read more... )

One of the goldfish showed signs of ammonia burn 2 days after they got home. My pond ammonia is fine, so I assume it came from Petsmart. I wish I had thought of this before I bought the fish: it's a new store and who knows when they actually turned on their filtration system; their water might not be cycled yet. Last night Sunday night tabbyfoo took me to see "Julie & Julia". We both liked the "Julia" bits best- "Julie" came off as insipid, whiny, and pathetic. I wish they had just made a biopic of Julia Child (because Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci were really fantastic, and such a pleasure to watch), but now I will read her autobiography instead ( Read more... )

Tonight I cleaned the pond prefilter, it was so filthy that the water was barely moving. Afterward I added water to the pond and realized that I couldn't see my goldfish, Charm, anywhere. It's so warm and sunny today! I love it. I hate the cold and I hate dreary weather. Today I got a good dose of sunshine. They say it might stick around for some days, too! Something cool happened yesterday.

arsonchild had asked how Popeye was doing, and I needed to feed her, so I showed her to him. I pulled all the plants out of her bucket so he could see her better. pturing wanted a look at her too.
