Maybe try THE LUXE series--turn-of-the-century NYC Gossip Girls? There's another series like that set in the 1920s by the same author. Sort of...trashy but fun.

They're totally fantasy-biased, but if she liked THG, I don't see any reason why she wouldn't like these. They're all fast-paced action/adventure/romance books with a female slant because that's what I like too. :D

I'd second the Uglies series, and I'd also recommend the "Great and Terrible Beauty" series - Karolyn devoured those.
