I think maybe all the acting on the rooftop wasn't acting, but him desperately trying to think of any other possible way that didn't involve him faking his death and really hurting his friends (especially John). Because yes, hurt and grieving is better than dead; but if there was a way to prevent both of those things, I think he'd have gone for it.

... I feel terrible for finding Jim sexy when he is such a dicking bastard. BUT HE SO IS OMFG.

Molly. Molly fucking Hooper. I just want to hug her forever, she owned this episode. (And actually, her character development has been awesome this series. I know we haven't seen much of her, but to go from mindless adoration of Sherlock, to admitting that she 'doesn't count' and still offering him help, wow. ALL THE HEARTS FOR YOU MOLLY ( ... )

Ooooh that's a good point, yes, because Sherlock does actually care, that's what this whole season is about, and he's really trying to avoid dying and he's really trying to avoid having to pretend to die, and failing at the second one is better than failing at the first but it's still VERY NOT GOOD.

It's okay, Sherlock is a dicking bastard too, and he's sexy. (Which is about right because they're the same person. :D)

I DON'T WANT TO GO THE LONG WAY. TTT_TTT

JIM FUCKING MORIARTY. I swear. He is just so, so clever. And I agree -- the only way Sherlock could have won is by losing. He went up there prepared to die. And as for your question in re: the stuff on the phone on the roof, I think it was actually for the benefit of the shooters. They had to be convinced he was okay with dying. That he wasn't trying to trick them (even though he did in the end), so that a) they would leave John and the others alone, and b) so that Sherlock could track them all down and dispose of them (probably at the same time as Moriarty's network).

Bloody brilliant episode, all round. Mycroft, oh, god. Kind of broke my heart. What must it feel like, to fail so spectacularly, to someone who has very rarely failed at all?

Also I'm convinced he knew straight away that it was all a trick, Sherlock's death. He knows his brother. I am completely positive he knew ( ... )

Re: Sherlock's note, yeah, that and clearly it's important for his plan for John to believe he's dead, and John knows him, so he would be harder to convince... Sherlock needed him to believe in the suicide, to see him die ("keep your eyes on me")... faking his death only works if John thinks it can't possibly be fake.
