I've always been adverse to change. Change is SCARY. Change is shaking up the NORM. I know the norm. I may not like the norm, but I know it

I hate change. I moved a lot growing up, and it was always hard and never fun. Change can be for the better, but usually until it gets better I still get disgruntled with the very idea :P
Still. If you feel it's time for some changes, then it probably is :D
I was the opposite! Never moved (except once when I was 2 and I don't remember) and I just... loved things always being the same. I'm SLOWLY learning that not all change is bad and that it can be good - even if it's always scary!
I always feel so good when I freecycle things! One of my tricks is to take a picture of something if I know, intellectually, that it has to go, but, but, sentimental! Like this pair of shoes that I had forever and were dead and stinky and really needed to be gone, but throw them away? omg, noooo love those shooooes. So now I can gaze upon them without having them take up closet space. Also: new shoes!
I love the picture idea! because a lot of times things have sentimental value but no tangible use? like you said - shoes that you can't wear or for me, clothes!
I feel the same way about change too, it seem to take me a long time to get used to it, and an upcoming change always makes me anxious. But good things come out of changes too

*HUGS* Did you see trillingstar's comment above about taking pictures of things that have sentimental value? I think I may try that! I'm always worried that my memory relies having that object but I think that if I take a picture, I will still be able to see the things, but I won't have the clutter!
Both are more likely to be excuses, because the amount of work scares me just as much as throwing things out.
This I understand :-) I'll start working on one area, then realize that in order to put certain things away, I need to sort out a different area. So I start there, then realize that's going to mean working on yet another area! Then I just throw my hands up and give up, and hope I can deal with it another day :-(
It's definitely easier when you have someone to help!
My thing was always worrying about making a mistake - throwing something out and then regretting it - like... I'm paralyzed by making a mistake and I've got to learn that you know what? mistakes happen. and it's OKAY. you live through it.

YES!!!! That is a big part of what keeps holding me back! Especially since I've had it happen a couple of times. Unfortunately (and annoyingly!) that worry never goes away, even though that has happened only a tiny percentage of the time compared to all the things I *have* managed to get rid of, and I've always managed to come up with an alternative! *sigh* damned brain.
