Saw 2012 the other day...

Nov 30, 2009 14:04

Well, I sat through the panel for 2012 at Comic Con, waiting for the IM2 panel, so I already knew well in advance that there was probably not going to be one single scientifically accurate moment in the whole film. Personally, I like my scifi good and realistic, thank you very much, but somehow my mom talked me into seeing it with her.

a spoiler-filled rant )

movies, rant, wtf?

Even from the previews alone I could tell this was going to be a pretty terrible movie, and you've just confirmed it.

Think of it like One More Day: it's magic, we don't gotta explain shit!

Yeah. Pretty much.

See, if it WAS magic, if it was actually a fantasy movie instead of a wannabe scifi movie, all the innaccuracies would have been fine. Fantasy and magic don't have to obey the laws of science. Science fiction should at least try, otherwise it really doesn't deserve to be called science fiction anyway.

BTW, any chance I'll see that drawing for Gift? **puppy eyes**

Oh shit, I completely forgot! XD;;;
It's on my list, but I've been drawing eight hours a day at work so drawing for fun has sort of slipped my mind. That project should be finishing up soon, though, so I'll get started on it!

Did you have any specifics in mind for what they're wearing? I assume party wear, but are we talking casual party or tux party?

Oooh... thaht's not good! We need your pretty pics!

Umm... I'd like Pepper to have some nice cocktail dress. Tony would have been in a suit and tie. Maybe it could be after she takes off his tie and unbuttons his shirt enough to see the arc reactor? Sorta the kind of stuff they're wearing at his party in the IM2 footage.

My little rant with it, if I may add, is that if you're a person who *only* interested on SFX and very, nice polished CGI, then go see it. But I go way beyond that. Not saying that SFX is not important, but I think the main importance is the plot, a very juicy, well written script with its characters. I didn't get that in this movie. Hollywood just wanted to make a big budget movie just for the CGI, and it's something that I'm getting worried. But that's another story that would take a long time to write.

BTW, was the theater still full because of Twilight?

... this is from the same guy who made The Day After Tomorrow and 10,000 BC. I'm not surprised.

The thing is, this is what makes money. This, and Transformers, and that Twilight shit. And as long as that's what keeps making money, that's what keeps getting produced. Studios like safe bets, guaranteed money-makers, especially when the economy's in the toilet.

Oh, Hollywood, you are a cruel, cruel mistress. Remind me again why I want to break into you so badly? :/

I totally forgot about that - can't think of his name right now - made those two movies. It's no wonder. Although, The Day After Tomorrow wasn't so bad. But, 10,000 BC was just...*bad*. Aside from the fact that it was historically inaccurate in every way. Pyramids weren't made in 10,000 nor, less, they used mammoths to build them. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong...but I don't think that was ever mentioned in any of my history books :/

I actually rather enjoyed it. But I guess I was the only person who didn't have high expectations for it. I knew exactly what it would be, and that's what I got. A fun time at the theaters watching crazy destruction and laughing to corny lines.
