Where Do Sea Colts Come From?

Jul 14, 2009 19:32

Dear Internets,

Halp!

I need to come up with a title for a short article for a science textbook for grades 6, 7, and 8. The article is about the strange and fascinating reproductive practices of seahorses (short version: females deposit eggs in males' brood pouches. Males fertilize and carry the brood of seahorse babies, eventually going into ( Read more... )

wage-slavery, secks, inadequacies of the english language, transdimensional transmogrification, workaholism as a lifestyle choice, i did it with science!, subverting the youth, appeals to the hivemind, quotidiana

Thanks for playing! Because I'm in educational publishing, I'm turning this fun game into a teachable moment. This is how we do my job!

All Your Eggs in One Basket?!

Probably too obscure for many of the readers, and it doesn't really support the content (not that you could know this, seeing as I haven't given you the content).

Pouch Papas / Pouch-Papas and Pony-Mommas

Both of these are quite great, and I'm pretty sure the client wouldn't like it; however, I can at least include it on the list of prospective titles I send them. The second might be a bit too evocative of "baby mommas," too.

Pony Parents of the High Seas

Not really working to my ear, and also too long-the designers would hate me.

I won't even dignify that last one with a response.

Mister Mom: Secrets of Seahorses

What does Prehensile Mean?

The Fascinating Habits of Seahorses

Seahorse Dads: Mixing things up

And Mr. Mongolia suggests:

What Women Want: underwater edition

and

Baretailed and Pregnant

(he's awfully helpful, too, just like me)

Heh. I'm going to treat all of these as serious suggestions.

Mister Mom: Secrets of Seahorses

Personification and inappropriate allusion: kids won't really get the joke.

What does Prehensile Mean?

Snork. Sigh. Doesn't really support the main idea of the selection.

The Fascinating Habits of Seahorses

Too long.

Seahorse Dads: Mixing things up

Personification.

What Women Want: underwater edition

Age-inappropriate.

Baretailed and Pregnant

Snork. Entirely inappropriate. But funny.

You're both very helpful.

Special Delivery: Seahorse Reproductive Behavior

That's all I've got, and I suspect it's an awful pun. Sorry.

Ooh! I think I might be able to get away with just "Special Delivery"! And the client likes dreadful puns-as long as they're puns a 12-year-old might get.

I declare you the winnah! (until someone else posts something that grabs me more, and of course my opinion doesn't count :P)

I came up with:

"Finally, Some Males Who Are Useful!"
"Stallions and Stretchmarks"
"The Knights of Parenthood"

but, meh.

The client thought it was too sexually suggestive.
