On Dumbledore Appointing Horace Slughorn

No custom f-locking here, since I'm pretty sure all of you HP-reading people have at least gotten to or near the end. If not, please exert self-control because there are HBP SPOILERS AHEAD.
(And if you're done with HBP and I haven't unlocked you for my Snape discussion post... oops! Let me know so I can unlock you.)

I like Sluggy. He's my favourite character, now!
And he is a good Slytherin. Just completely naive.

He grew on me throughout HBP :)

He'd be an excellent teacher to have in RL if you manage to get on his good side. Our world's all about networking and establishing contacts to get ahead. His Slug Club certainly does that!

One more reason. :) Harry needs NEWT Potions if he's going to be an Auror. Snape won't take him with an E on his Potions OWL, but Slughorn will. ;)

Good thinking! Saves JKR a scene or two on Dumbledore strong-arming Snape from admitting his most hated dunderheaded student into NEWT level Potions ;)

Thanks for pointing that out! *edits*

The HP Lexicon doesn't mention other House affiliations... I must have gotten that idea from fics. My bad :p

From what I know, Heads of House belong to the Houses they were in as students. But I think you're right, that's as far as staff-House affiliations would go. We know Hagrid, Lupin, etc. were in Gryffindor, but that's only because they're friendly with Harry and we read the story from Harry's POV.

No offense taken ;) Glad for the clarification.

I can definitely see Hagrid as a Hufflepuff... it's hard work keeping all those animals healthy!

But I remember seeing the HP Lexicon listing Hagrid as a Gryffindor, and HP Lexicon people are really good at keeping their facts straight. So I'm going to trust them on this one and save myself some time from digging through canon for confirmation ;)

Yet another reason!

Dumbledore knew Harry wanted to be an Auror.
Snape will only take someone with an O.
Therefore he moved Snape to Harry's Owl, and gave him someone that would take him with an E in potions.

It wouldn't be THE reason for Sumblefdore doing it, but it gives yet another reason that would sway Dumbledore to do something against his better judgement.

lol, no problem. I can't believe I missed something so obvious, but that's me, missing the forest for the tree... ;)

Thanks for the comment. Even though it's a repeat, you explained it well.

Plus, Slughorn's obsession with holding little parties and getting all the 'worthy' students together makes for a good excuse for character interaction. We'd never have met Blaise if it wasn't for Slughorn.

I'm surprised JKR didn't call him MacGuffin.

Yes, and Blaise Zabini fans all over are thanking Slug for his little club :)

I'm surprised JKR didn't call him MacGuffin.
