No custom f-locking here, since I'm pretty sure all of you HP-reading people have at least gotten to or near the end. If not, please exert self-control because there are HBP SPOILERS AHEAD.
(And if you're done with HBP and I haven't unlocked you for my Snape discussion post... oops! Let me know so I can unlock you.)

And he is a good Slytherin. Just completely naive.

He'd be an excellent teacher to have in RL if you manage to get on his good side. Our world's all about networking and establishing contacts to get ahead. His Slug Club certainly does that!

The HP Lexicon doesn't mention other House affiliations... I must have gotten that idea from fics. My bad :p
From what I know, Heads of House belong to the Houses they were in as students. But I think you're right, that's as far as staff-House affiliations would go. We know Hagrid, Lupin, etc. were in Gryffindor, but that's only because they're friendly with Harry and we read the story from Harry's POV.
No offense taken ;) Glad for the clarification.

But I remember seeing the HP Lexicon listing Hagrid as a Gryffindor, and HP Lexicon people are really good at keeping their facts straight. So I'm going to trust them on this one and save myself some time from digging through canon for confirmation ;)

Dumbledore knew Harry wanted to be an Auror.
Snape will only take someone with an O.
Therefore he moved Snape to Harry's Owl, and gave him someone that would take him with an E in potions.
It wouldn't be THE reason for Sumblefdore doing it, but it gives yet another reason that would sway Dumbledore to do something against his better judgement.

Thanks for the comment. Even though it's a repeat, you explained it well.

I'm surprised JKR didn't call him MacGuffin.
