Belated Happy Birthday, Fred and George!

Testing Wheezes

“Now all we need is a willing participant.” George mused, striding the stairs two at a time while running a finger over the dusty elf snouts. Their mother had insisted they remain at the communal dinner table longer than they’d liked.

“Who said anything about willing?” Fred grinned widely as they gained the landing and the two came ( Read more... )

Poor Ron! You certainly found the "evil" side of F&G. I liked these lines:

"About time our own kin started helping us out.”

“Give us more reason to dote on them when we’re famous.” George concurred."

LOL. That's confidence for you.

And then you continue with the theme:

“Ah, Ronniekins. Bless his heart,” George whispered affectionately.

This is certainly their attitude in OotP with the first years.

And Ron wears tidy whities. LOL. I also liked the contents of Ron's trunk. It evoked scenes from the other books and made this really feel like JKR's world.

1-Do you think it's too evil to fit the twins characters? (Yes is an o.k. answer.)
I always wonder if I've portrayed characters true to canon.
The twins do seem hardest on Ron to me. Heck, they're nicer to Harry sometimes- gave him the map, for example.
2-Did you spot Fred/George differences?
Hopefully the twins will leave me alone now and I can move on to my Marauder WIP, which has been eluding me. Maybe because I'm scared to mess it up. I keep writing around it. Thanks for stopping by!

I don't think they would do something to Ron and not have an antidote - but that's your punchline. And they did tell Hermione that they experimented on themselves first - remember they had the boils and could hardly sit down?

The other thing with F&G is that they don't tend to do things unless provoked - the teddy bear into a spider was after he broke their broom. And when they do do something surprising, the results are short-lived - like Neville and the canary creams. So if you changed the prank to something less harmful - like an invisibilty charm on the underpants (sort of like the headless hats) it could be funny but not hurtful.

I noticed that Fred had the ideas and that George either agreed or questioned his ideas.

Good points- Your memory of canon is astonishing and you are a very perceptive reader. This was just a fun attempt to get some lead out (practice, practice) so it is best for me to move onto my WIP at this point, but I'm a glutton for constructive criticism. Fred was meant to have more mischievous ideas and George to be more understanding of people. Ah, and I remember those boils very well! Thanks again.

Poor Ron. If he and the twins had any sense, they'd really miss Percy (as a much more prime target for the twins...erm...more creative side).

I like the dusty elf snouts.

And where did the twins get a silver snuffbox heirloom? A donation to the cause from Sirius, perhaps? Or is that just my overactive imagination.

Hi Gabriella. The snuffbox was the one they cleaned out of the drawing room in OOtP, page 116- the one that caused Sirius' hand to develop a crust (I love the way he dealt with it so calmly) before he sacked it and George later pocketed it. It looked like it was going to be Wheeze material but we never heard anything about it so I wondered. I think my sense of humor is warped from having two brothers, because in my mind it was a short jump from other pranks Forge have pulled to this... Wartcap powder seemed like a fairly mild substance and if worse came to worse, Sirius could help. Plus, JKR employs much bum humor for those 7-11 year olds, such as Peeves demanding Neville set his pants on fire to pass to Gryff tower. However, St. M. has the very good point above that it may be too mean for twin material. Yes, poor Ron. Now even I'm picking on him. I'm starting to feel quite guilty about it. Where IS Percy when you need him? I need to get over to your page for a little George/Padma fix.
