I adore those writing-epiphany moments where you're struggling with this epically difficult scene and it's like a lightbulb goes off.

I've been going about it all wrong. It can't be like what I imagined, because it's not nearly the same stakes or tone! What worked before doesn't have to now - that's why it felt so flat!

That does sound like a really good moment...except for the timing of being right before you sleep, orz. O_O; Hopefully, you were able to write it how you wanted and get some sleep too! XD
