Just because it's been done before doesn't mean it can't be done again. Besides, this one's due for a reboot!
I agree with you about the intensity of the story, which opens up so many possibilities. Have you ever read Ursula LeGuin's Left Hand of Darkness? It's two beings have to cross an ice planet together, and one of them is of a race that can change gender. Stranding two people together (especially ones with a complex relationship) is a great way of intensifying the relationship, and if they think there's no hope of ever getting back--even better!
But personally I think Bones just didn't want to be the Dr. Smith in this "Lost in Space." Who wants to be the third wheel for their entire lives?
Haha, you're right! However, it was difficult to see any slashiness between the two in reboot... I think Urban recognized the dynamic from TOS, but Quinto didn't respond in the same vein (affectionate bickering.) I really hope the screenwriters incorporate it into the next movie.
Wow, I have NOT read that yet, but thanks for the rec! I'm really interested in that sort of premise. And yeah, McCoy definitely seemed terrified of being trapped in that place with an irrational Spock and a woman who maintained eye-contact with Spock while answering McCoy's questions lol. That was so rude, but she gets some leeway for social awkwardness, being trapped alone for however long.
All right, while working on that other Mc/Jo story I ended up writing another one! I'm only about halfway done with this new one but I could use some advice/pointers. Do you have any time? Regardless, I appreciate your help and I can wait and work on it more if now doesn't work for you.
I just realized you had sent me a copy of your fic! D: I know you mentioned you would send it but I didn't know you did it right away! I'm so sorry about that. I'm going to send you an email account I check more regularly.
