An alert siren wails in Rick Wakeman's basement. Rick rubs the sleep from his eyes and stares in disbelief as the notification arrives: at long last, someone else has purchased a copy of "The Six Wives of Henry VIII."
I've never gotten into Rush. I'm not saying never, but I am saying that even if the music gets more interesting to me, it'll still be hard to get past their whole weird Ayn Rand fixation.
I don't have a problem with pretension in and of itself (if you're going to get into prog-rock at all, you really can't). Like, I can read a review of the French prog band Magma, whose most revered album among prog fans had its lyrics written in AN IMAGINARY LANGUAGE THE DRUMMER MADE UP, and think, "Dammit, I'll probably own that someday, and Tony will laugh at me."
