ZeldaQueen: Alrighty everyone, Gethesmane's been ignored for too long! Let's find out what our Sue, Ms Kate, is up to

Chapter 10

Katherine

ZeldaQueen: Starting off the drinking early, I see \~/

I refused Jack’s order, which only seemed to annoy him.

ZeldaQueen: "Seemed" to annoy him? Either it did or it didn't. Given that he's trying to hide you away like the frail flower you are, I'm sure it's obvious which one it is and why he's annoyed

“Stop being so damn stubborn and get down there!” he demanded. “Do I have you lock you in the brig?”

ZeldaQueen: Yes! Do so! And gag her, while you're at it. You don't even have to let her back out! *puppy eyes*

“Why?”

ZeldaQueen: Why do you think?

I swear, as soon as this is over, I'm going over to YouTube to watch Cybersix. I need characters who actually show some level of intelligence

“For your own safety, love. You’re Beckett’s target.”

ZeldaQueen: Oh, and Jack isn't? Seriously, they don't know that Kate is a specific target! They think that every pirate is wanted the same! So either Jack doesn't care about his crew enough to hide them, but does for the Sue, or he thinks Kate's to weak and fragile to fight alongside of the men

Before I could open my mouth,

ZeldaQueen: Lady, your mouth is always open!

I turned and found that Beckett’s own ship had pulled next to ours; soldiers began to board.

Jack withdrew his pistol, as did the rest of the crew and me, yet it was quite futile. The soldiers had swarmed about the deck, aiming muskets and pistols at the crew. Jack had pulled me close against him, his arms wrapped about me protectively.

ZeldaQueen: I must point out that Elizabeth wasn't constantly being wrapped up in Her Man's arms, whenever there was danger

I felt anger surge through my husband as Beckett stepped aboard, rather pompous and vain, as usual.

ZeldaQueen: *laughing* Oh, really? Like a certain Suethor I could mention?

I stared at him. “How did you know…?”

He smiled. “Oh, yes. I forgot to thank you, Mr. Turner.”

The crew turned to look at Will, who simply smiled and nodded.

ZeldaQueen: WILL, YOU ARE AWESOME AND I WOULD HAVE YOUR BABIES, IF ELIZABETH WOULDN'T KILL ME FOR IT!

Oh, and take a drink. Will did, in fact, contribute to the plot. \~/ Not surprised, really. His purpose was, after all, to look bad

I withdrew from Jack’s arms and walked over to him.

“You little bastard!” I hissed. “You’ve betrayed us all!”

ZeldaQueen: I know. Isn't it glorious? *basks*

“Learned that from Jack.”

ZeldaQueen: OH MY GOD, CANON IS BEATING THIS FIC'S ASS! I CAN'T STOP LAUGHING!

I lunged at him, catching him off guard, and forced him to the deck. I began to beat against him with my fists, suddenly filled with an animal like rage and fury. He struggled uselessly against me.

“I’m going to kill you!” I screamed.

ZeldaQueen: You know, I ought to be furious at the Sue and Gethesemane, for actually writing Will as being afraid of this stupid bint. I can't though. Given how useless and babied Kate's been, all I can picture in that scene is the stereotypical "silly wimmuns throws a fit and is so cute in her anger" thing. You know, like a kitten who thinks it's a tiger and all.

And normally, I would find that infuriating as well. But it's just sad that Gethesemane has completely degraded this character and treated her like an infant and sunk her to a point where the few moments we're supposed to see her as badass come across as silly and pathetic

“Kate!” cried Jack as he pulled me away from him. “He’s not worth it!”

ZeldaQueen: Just keep telling yourself that, deluded fool

Still breathing heavily, I felt Jack hold me tightly.

ZeldaQueen: See what I mean? How can we take her anger seriously when Her Man pulls her to him and cuddles her like a baby and she acts like a toddler throwing a tantrum and being calmed down by Daddy?

Beckett chuckled darkly from behind.

ZeldaQueen: - and gave his mustache an extra-elaborate twirl

“Such a feisty young woman, aren’t you?” he asked as he neared me.

ZeldaQueen: Quick, Beckett! Tie her to some railroad tracks and threaten her virtue!

I lashed out angrily, yet he was able to dodge my attack.

ZeldaQueen: Again, my point stands

He motioned to his guards, who swarmed about me and ripped me from Jack’s arms.

ZeldaQueen: Oh no! Anything but that! She can't cling to Jack? NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

“Jack!” I cried as I tried to struggle against their grips.

Jack reached for my hand, yet I was out of his reach.

ZeldaQueen: I think I got "bingo" on my Cliche Card

“Let go of me!” I screamed. “Let go! Jack!”

The soldiers had restrained Jack as well, and as I made to cry out to him, I felt a sharp pain in the back of my head as everything faded to black.

ZeldaQueen: Hey, this might be my favorite chapter yet! And don't forget your drinks! \~/ \~/

When I awoke, I found that I was in a cell…a brig.

ZeldaQueen: Yes, I do believe that's what cells on ships were called \~/

Pain shot through my head as I slowly sat up, looking around my dimly-lit surroundings.

ZeldaQueen: I like to pretend that the pain she's feeling is her brain trying to think, flabby and out-of-shape from lack of use

I felt that I was not alone, and I looked into the shadows; a tall, broad figure stood against the darkness, and I knew that it was watching me.

ZeldaQueen: Huh, she just woke up and someone's already there to break her out. Might just be a new record. And I know that we're going to get no explanation as to why Kate, who's apparently very important to Beckett, isn't being guarded by British soldiers, or how Jones got rid of them without detection if there were.

Oh, and get used to Davy Jones being referred to as "broad". It fits about as well as it does to Sweeny Todd, but she's determined to describe him that way

“Who’s there?” I asked.

The figure stepped into the small patch of lamplight that danced across the floor. I gasped.

ZeldaQueen: It was...................................Dumblydores!

“Jones!”

Captain Davy Jones stood before me, watching me.

ZeldaQueen: (Jones) "I like to watch you sleep. It fascinates me"

I mean jeez, Gethesemane, you already have every other harlequin cliche in this thing. Might as well add that in too

“What are you doing on Beckett’s ship?” I asked.

ZeldaQueen: He's Davy Jones! He can just appear wherever he wants, if he needs to talk to someone!

“He summoned me to take you to the Dutchman.”

I rose from the ground. “Where’s Jack?”

“I don’t know. Now come with me.”

“But…”

He wrenched the cell’s door free, and grasped my hand.

ZeldaQueen: I'm going to pretend that he grasped it with his claw, and the Sue is now bleeding and screaming in agony.

And oh look, Kate escaped. Again. Hooray \~/

Moments later, we were aboard the Dutchman, in his stateroom. I had been surprised that he hadn’t locked me in the brig, and I began to wonder if Beckett had truly ordered him to take me out of the cell. If I was Beckett’s target, why did he want me to leave his ship?

ZeldaQueen: So he could kill you himself? *is hopeful*

And becaus we were reminded that yes, the Sue is all that Beckett cares about, take another drink \~/

“Jones.”

He looked up at me.

ZeldaQueen: Was Jones looking at the floor?

“Beckett didn’t order you to get me out of the brig, did he?” I asked.

He was silent, but eventually answered, “No.”

ZeldaQueen: Those two descriptions kind of contradict

I walked over to where he stood in the shadows.

ZeldaQueen: I have to wonder how shadowy a stateroom can be. It's not the brig, for crying out loud!

“Then why did you?”

“He was going to kill you tonight. Sparrow refused to tell him where the Brethren’s gathering, so he made up his mind to kill you in order to get to Sparrow.”

ZeldaQueen: What, and he wasn't going to kill her otherwise? Pirates are criminals! They were hanging them by the dozen in the movie's opening! And it would be perfectly in character for Beckett to get the location from Jack and then hang Kate anyway! "It's just good business," anyone?

Ah well, the interrogation for the location of the Brethren Court was All About Kate and how she's the one Jack loves so...drink! \~/ \~/

I could do nothing but stare at him. He had saved me!

ZeldaQueen: Um, did it not occur to Kate what Beckett had planned for her? She's supposed to be a notorious pirate who's wanted by the Royal Navy. They didn't just stick pirates in jail for life, y'know. She ought to have known that when she took up piracy, pretty much all officers of the crown would be going for her throat

Or was he simply biding time to kill me himself?

ZeldaQueen: Dude, I'll kill you! There, question answered! Now will this fic be over already?

“Why did you do that?” I asked, my tone soft. “Why did you save my life?”

ZeldaQueen: *rolls eyes* Oh gee, I wonder

“Does it really matter why I did it?”

ZeldaQueen: Um yes, it does. Jones, you're a heartless wretch who's trying to steal the soul of her husband and under the command of Beckett. For all she knows, this is indeed a trick, to hold her hostage until the guard sneezes and she escapes

“Yes.”

He didn’t answer. Instead he looked away, almost as if he were in pain.

ZeldaQueen: I dunno guys, do you think Jones is in pain?

“What has he done to you?”

ZeldaQueen: Bzuh? Where did this come from?

My voice had fallen to a whisper, and I felt my heart contract as a single tear had made its way down his cheek. I brushed it away.

ZeldaQueen: Alright Gethesemane, stop swooning in front of your computer. And yes, I know that's just what you did at that line, complete with gracefully falling back, hand draped over your forehead

“He has the heart,” he said softly.

ZeldaQueen: *singing* After all is said and done, he never walked he never run, he's a winner!

It was then that I understood.

“You’re his prisoner.”

“I’m being blackmailed,” he answered, his voice dark with anger. “I’m forced to kill other pirates, to fire upon their ships. And if I disobey him, he won’t waste any time in killing me.”

ZeldaQueen: Oh for the love of - Gethesemane! Please, stop trying to excuse Jones' actions! He was perfectly cheerful about killing innocent sailors, pirates and honest workers alike, and there was also that scene in Dead Man's Chest where he ordered all the survivors killed without them having a choice! The only reason he was pissed about killing for Beckett was because he didn't like being forced to do it!

He was looking at me again; his eyes were dark with anger and pain.

ZeldaQueen: And angst, oh the angst. Did we mention the angst? Because he was angsty, oh my, yes

“I’ll save you from him,” I said softly. “I’ll save you from all of this.”

ZeldaQueen: Wasn't it just last fic that you declared that you'd see him dead, even if you had to stab the heart yourself?

“You can’t.”

“Why?”

“The only way to save me is to kill the one who placed this curse upon me to begin with.”

ZeldaQueen: ...What?

I looked at him, puzzled. He sighed.

ZeldaQueen: *sigh*  Time for a case of Die For Our Ship. Have a snake and beverage of your choice at hand, ladies and gentlemen. Let's gooooo!

“I didn’t tell you the entire story of Sirena,” he said. “Before we met, I had made a bargain with the sea goddess, Calypso.

ZeldaQueen: Okay, what was this bargain for? Wealth? Power? The heck of it?

She favored me above all the other sailors.

ZeldaQueen: Okay, that at least makes sense. Given Calypso's fickle nature and how she's supposed to be an old pagan goddess and physical manifestation of the sea, I can buy that she would only offer favors to the guy she takes a shine to

So, she offered to make me the most powerful man to sail the Seven Seas in exchange for my heart.

ZeldaQueen: And how would that work? We're never really given the details. I mean, did she make the winds always favor him? Did she keep the sea calm for him? Did she destroy anyone who opposed him in storms? All we really get is that it's a Generic Power Boost

I agreed. You see, Calypso was extremely jealous; she even hated it when I went to Tortuga and saw any of the tavern wenches try to get near me.”

ZeldaQueen: And how are those two facts related? The way it's worded suggests that Jones took the bargain because he was worried about crossing the insanely jealous goddess. And while that could work for someone, going by Jones' love of the untamable sea, I got the impression that Jones liked how wild and unpredictable Calypso was (leastwise until the whole port thing)

I said nothing.

ZeldaQueen: That's a blessed relief

“When I met Sirena, Calypso came to me and told me that she loved me.

ZeldaQueen: Wait, what? How long did she know about him before Sirena came along? Why wouldn't Calypso go to him as soon as she fell for him? She's a goddess, it's not like it'd be a problem for her! Did she just wait until he found someone else before thinking "Better get to that, or else I'll be beaten to the punch"?

I told her that the feeling was mutual, although I know now that I really felt nothing towards her.

ZeldaQueen: Oh no, of course you didn't *rolls eyes*

Over time, as Sirena and I grew closer, Calypso began to see Sirena as a threat. She tried everything in her power to take Sirena away, and nearly succeeded more than once.

ZeldaQueen: Do you mean to tell me that Sirena managed to escape the wrath of a sea goddess, one who is insanely jealous and in love no less? While living on the frigging sea? We saw the malstorm Calypso summoned in the third movie, and that wasn't even her focusing her efforts onto one person!

I did not hear from her for more than five years after Sirena and I married. But she was there, always lurking beneath the depths, waiting like a snake for her chance to strike. She found it. That storm that had killed Jacob? She was responsible for it.”

I gasped. “She killed your son?”

ZeldaQueen: You know, Gethesemane, pirates weren't above killing children. It's hard to take Kate going for the higher moral ground seriously, especially when she told Jack that they should kill that little native child in the previous fic.

Oh wait, Jacob was a Sue spawn and the native child displeased Kate. Big difference. Oy

“She wanted to find the one thing that would hurt Sirena and me the most, and she succeeded.

ZeldaQueen: The fact still remains that you were the idiots who brought a child around on a freaking pirate ship and apparently let him wander around on deck during a storm! Hell, he probably would have died even if Caslypso hadn't been gunning for revenge!

I’m beginning to think now that Calypso was responsible for Sirena’s death as well.

ZeldaQueen: Apparently Gethesemane expects me to believe that Sirena could survive the various ocean powers of Calypso, but not fight off a goddess in human form with just a pistol

I fell into depression after Jacob and Sirena died, and she came to me again. I wanted nothing to do with her, and so she placed me under the curse of corrupt immortality. I cut out my heart in a desperate attempt to rid myself of the curse and the pain, yet it only made the entire thing worse.”

ZeldaQueen: Hello Gethesemane, thank you for missing the point of the movies!

Let's see. In the movies, Calypso and Jones both wronged each other. Instead of working to forgive and make amends, they both tried to ignore what they did, or brush it aside. Jones chopped out his heart and became a monster who was unable to love, while Calypso tried to kill Jones and everyone else with her sea storm. So while they really did love each other, they couldn't have a happy ending.

This is in contrast to Will and Elizabeth. Again, both of them do things in the movie that they aren't exactly proud of and hide from each other. The difference is that they do forgive each other and work on repairing their relationship, instead of trying to hurt each other. So, while you could how happy their ending is, they still are both alive, married, and faithful to each other.

Gethesemane just ignored all of that for her stupid Sue shippings. Of course

“If Calypso is a goddess, then how can she die? Goddesses are immortal.”

ZeldaQueen: *sourly* Of course, your Sue-powers can pwn anything

A dark smile crossed his lips. “That’s when I called the first Brethren Court. I was able to capture her, and I showed them how to imprison her in human form, to take away what she loved most. And in doing so, I made her vulnerable to death. You see, the only way to kill her is while she’s in her human form. While she’s not completely mortal, she will die if you pierce her heart if she’s in human form.

ZeldaQueen: Again, in canon, Jones binding Calypso wasn't a good thing! He did it to spite her and locked her in a form that she hated.

And Gethesemane is celebrating it here, because it offers her a convenient way to kill her canon love opponent. I'm appalled

The Brethren Court wants to try to release Calypso to destroy Beckett and me, but they’re fools to think that they can control her.”

ZeldaQueen: How does he know this? And wasn't it only Barbossa who wanted to do that? You know, Kate's precious uncle, who threatened Calypso for insulting her? Oh, I do wonder how that one will be explained away

It was then that I reached a resolution; I would kill Calypso, and I would save Jones from her and Beckett. He had saved my life; I would save his.

ZeldaQueen: I hate Gethesemane. I hate her stupid Sues, I hate her smug attitude, and I hate how she rapes canon and derails and destroys perfectly fine and complex and interesting characters just because they get in the way of her lust interests.

Go ahead and take three drinks, ladies and gents. There were roughly three paragraphs, dedicated entirely to bashing and derailing Calypso's canon relationship with Jones \~/ \~/ \~/

“I’ll kill her,” I said softly. “To save you. You don't deserve to live in this hell.”

ZeldaQueen: HE'S ABANDONED HIS JOB AND COERCED DYING SAILORS TO JOIN HIS CREW, EFFECTIVELY CONDEMNING THEM TO AN ETERNITY OF BEING MUTATED INTO MONSTERS! YES, I'D SAY HE DOES!

I also would like to point out the logic fail here. The issue isn't Calypso, it's Beckett, the guy pointing a gun at Jones' heart. Jones was going along just fine before the heart was taken, especially in Heart of the Sea. You know, before Gethesemane found out about Calypso *cough*

I had noticed how close we had grown, and he closed the final distance.

ZeldaQueen: That was random

Slowly, our lips met, and his arms wrapped around my waist. The kiss grew in passion until I was clinging to him, almost desperately.

ZeldaQueen: This doesn't really help refute claims that Kate is a parasite

At that moment, guilt hadn't overtaken me, though I knew that I would be consumed by it when this all came to pass. But I didn't care. A part of me didn't care whether or not Jack walked in and saw us like this.

ZeldaQueen: Oh look, she sinned her ass off. Just like Bella being a cock tease to Jacob. But no, Gethesemane hates Meyer's writing.

Drink, drink \~/ \~/

No. Not a part of me. A part of Sirena. Her soul; she was so desperate to return to the man she loved that she was using my body to do it.

ZeldaQueen: Hmm, hijacking a strange woman's body and making her cheat on her husband with her husband's worst enemy? Yes, this Sirena person just sounds the the sort of character I'd want to cheer on

Let go, Katherine, whispered a faint, feminine voice, Sirena's voice.

ZeldaQueen: ... "Feminine"? Erm, spoilers, ladies and germs - in the stupid Origins fic Gethesemane did, she tries to pass Sirena as just as badass as Kate allegedly is. She's described as being "as wild and untamable as the sea". That coupled with how passive and frail Kate and, implicitly, Sirena are does not make "feminine" a good descriptor for this chick's voice

Let me take over.

No. I can't. What about Jack?

But I need this man, she protested. Just as he needs me. I want to see him again. I need to feel him again.

ZeldaQueen: (Sirena) *whining* "But I waaaaaaant him!"

So she's a manipulative bitch who hijacks the body of a woman and forces her to cheat on her husband with said husband's worst enemy, and she's got the mentality of a five-year-old. Wow, Sirena is really impressing me!

I had let go. I simply surrendered to the passion of the kiss. I did let Sirena take over my body, my heart. Then I felt an overwhelming tidal wave of love, not for Jack, but for Jones. This wasn't right, but Sirena prevented me from pulling away.

ZeldaQueen: Oh yeah, that's such a great excuse. "Oh honey, I wanted to remain faithful but...my past self was desperately in love with your sworn enemy and made me make out with him!"

Gethesmane, admit it. You want to have your chocolatey-orbed Depp cake your fishy, scaly, slimy Nighly cake as well. Farces like this hardly make you look good.

Well anyway, she sinned her ass off on her cheating with Jones, so two more drinks! \~/ \~/ And I have to ask, why is Sirena hijacking her now? Why didn't Kate feel anything in Heart of the Sea, during all of those times that she was on the Dutchman with Jones, being pawed up by him, smooching him, etc? Oh yeah, Gethesemane didn't know about Calypso then, and thus didn't know to bother with this stupid "tragically stuffed in the fridge" backstory

As the kiss ended, he whispered, “I love you, Katherine.”

ZeldaQueen: I hate you all

(Author’s Note: I told you guys this chapter would be longer…)

ZeldaQueen: Oh, so you carry those threats out, but don't go ahead with the ones to kill Kate? *huffs* I guess you padded it out by ranting about how evil Calypso is supposed to be
