Tree planting update, with bonus alpaca cria

Jun 08, 2008 21:43

My sister and brother-in-law came out here today to help with some chainsawing and clearing branches from the firebreaks. Two alpaca cria were/are due this month, so I've been keeping a pretty close watch on the alpaca paddock, but I was busy this morning reading Hornblower fanfic, cleaning the house and organising food for the day. It was a relief to have what so far has been a trouble-free cria!

It's so thrilling to see! I love hearing about your life and your involvement with the land. Custodianship, almost.

Sometimes it feels like things happen so slowly it hardly seems worthwhile, but when I look back on early picture I see that isn't really the case!

I especially like that mother/daughter bonding moment picture - at least that's what it looks like to me! And the one with the fence. I just want to pet those fuzzy little heads.

I think they were bonding, yes!

I put a little oilskin coat on the cria the next day since it was very wet and windy, and the mother and everyone else in the paddock acted like an alien had landed. They had to go through the bonding process all over again. The books (and cria coat advertisements) don't say anything about that!

Congratulations on the new arrival! How exciting!! Have you a name for her yet?

The tree planting progress photos are fantastic. I want to plant more trees in my yard, but have to do more research on what would be good, where.

App is beautiful! How tall is he?

Go YOU for living the dream. You are an inspiration. *hugs*

She's Sabrina. My sister came up with it. And the second one was born yesterday, on my mother's watch - another female, appears to be all white, name to be advised!

Great idea. I wish I'd done that myself before I planted my tree line! (Non-WA native, branch droppers.)

He's about 15.3hh. And I've been riding, too, which is excellent for my entire outlook. When I'm not riding, I always have a guilty feeling in the back of my mind about it.
