Fairly Definite Date for Tree Planting

Jun 16, 2006 11:59

Since the social calendar seems to be filling up, let's say:  Sunday 23 July.

In case anybody's free this Sunday afternoon and keen to endanger themselves for fun and food )

Sounds great! I would love to come.

Just wondering though, if its grasses you are burning back are they likely to grow back within a month? or is it just all dead annual grass stuff? I just know all the shit I pull out at the golf course seems to grow back in a week!
If its that sort of grass it might be better to round-up it a week or so before planting?

Just one other thing, I know you can't spend biggillions of cash on reveging, but the plants we are doing now get a bit of mulch round the outside of their bags and its supposed to boost their survival rate. It helps keep the moisture in (important cause of this very dry season) and keep down weeds, and I think some councils offer there greenwaste mulch really cheap or free to residents, but I don't know if that would work out where you are cause they probably don't collect greenwaste. Just wanted to share what my boss was telling me with you *g* if yours survived fine last year though i'm sure you don't have to do anything different.

Is it the tree planting or the burning that sounds great? I think mr_booboo was referring to the tree planting, though I could be wrong. I'd love to see you Sunday if you're free, but, you know, no obligation or pressure!

There's so much bulk from the dead grass that my feeling is that it'd be worth burning now to get rid of what's already there, then spraying the new growth again prior to planting. It'd be quite hard to dig through what's there now.

Thanks for the mulch tips. My survival rate was great down by the creek, not quite so good in other areas. Might try it in some of the drier spots this time.

burning! both!

Your mum going up? (you said blood relitives.) um sister? Could I bug them for a ride? If I could go up with someone that would save me a lot of cash. I'd help pay petrol and then I could knit on the way.

You've seen all of Season 2 now? I need to rewatch some of it and pay more attention to the political side.

In brief: good Jane-Joanie and Seth-Charlie interaction, Martha seemingly warming up. Well, that's very brief!

Detailed spoilers at www.hbo.com/deadwood if you really want to know everything!

A couple of people here are downloading it. I'm sure sarren or I could arrange to send you a DVD with the first few episodes in a few weeks if you'd like?
