In the beginning...

justacat's post about her Pros obsession got me thinking about the years when I discovered on the internet that other people still cared about The Professionals, bought my videos and discovered slash.  I've kept a short diary all my adult life (and some of my childhood and teenage life - I've just been rereading my entry from the day I lost my virginity ( Read more... )

Diary of a Fan ... I loved reading this!! I can only imagine what it must have been like to love Pros already and then discover the world of Fandom out there ...

Like I've since heard so many other people say, I thought I was the only one. Learning I wasn't was a relevation, a miracle, as you put it.

Amazing. To have this super clear record - the structure and timeline? - of your Pros obsession. I cannot imagine what it must have been like to have a span of two and a half years to wait to watch the series! Especially loved your comment on the squeeky tape :)

Actually, I got that wrong... it was three and a half years. I'd probably have burst into tears if I'd known in 1997 it would take that long ( ... )

The history you have with them is so beautiful!

I wish I'd lived in a country that actually aired the Pros... The only incident I can tell you about has to do with a season opener of La Femme Nikita - it was due to air on our first child's due date! I was having none of that - I was determined that I wouldn't deliver until after I'd seen the show, and for once it worked out the way I wanted.

I wish that your hand holding scene was really there, too...

That's hilarious! Glad it worked out for you!

You clearly use your diary in a much more events-oriented way than me! All you can tell from my diary is my mood on that day. 'All is darkest despair' or 'Jubilant'.

I remember reading slash the first time though. It was 1998 and Sandy printed some out and gave it to me for my birthday. That was definitely the best thing about a sucky year.

I keep it simple - I just expect myself to write down exactly what I did that day. I can usually do that in 5-10 lines, in the space they give you in one of those appointment-type diaries. If something major happens and I feel like it, I write more, but I discovered long ago that if I put pressure on myself to go into a lot of detail, I wouldn't do it at all. My mood normally goes hand in hand with what I did and doesn't need much special mention, though occasionally I give it a word or a sentence ( ... )

I realise this post is all about Pros.

But of course I'm going to fixate on the part where you recced an Atlantis fic. And then be enormously impressed that you recced a story involving childrearing. Go you!

*is impressed*

Hey, good to see you back.

Blame Speranza. She recced it, and after loving the LA Confidential story of astolat's that she recced last year, not to mention one of my favourite TS stories that I found via a rec of hers, I didn't dare go past it. I had to squint past the baby parts and the bit at the end where they wanted another child, but otherwise didn't even flinch!

I haven't managed to watch Atlantis since that night at your house (I don't seem to be much good at unsupervised TV watching), but might even be inspired to check out some of your recs from last week.

nah, they were flashfics - and some were gen. Give me a day or two, I'm going to put together a comprehensive list of proper fics - you know Shalott's written like, TEN Atlantis fics? Trille recced a fabulous one within the last week.
