I'm not *sure* myself about the ending, but my take on it is that Chuck is God, and the creator of the Supernatural universe is Kripke, who is God, and that's his moment to give fandom some love. Kripke's name was at the beginning and his stand-in was at the end - appropriate for the creator:).
It did feel like a blessing (lukewarm but kindly) by the creator.
I'm still smiling about all the layers of references to early episodes and to the fandom. Only a long-running show with a big active fandom could create something like it, and they didn't waste the opportunity!
Thanks for capturing some of my favorite moments! I was worried about this on first viewing, and ended up really liking it. I'm watching again now, and I think I'm going to love it more and more.
Thanks for the "We got work to do" comparison! I knew it was familiar, but I couldn't place it at the moment.
I love that road painting so much! How I'd love to have it wall-sized!
I stayed as unspoiled as I could because I didn't want to build up any extra trepidation, but loved it almost from the start. They hit so many right notes. A very rewatchable episode!
Sam says "We got work to do" at the end of 9x01 too, but the scene isn't framed the same way - they're in the car driving along.
One of my favourite things in paintings is a road going off into the distance, and that was the biggest one I'd ever seen!
