I've been so looking forward to hearing how you saw their relationship!

I think my reading may have been biased by the fact that I read far more slash than anything else and am used to interpreting all fanfiction in that context. In my post I originally included "Entirely platonically?" in my last paragraph after "Mostly platonically?", but I took it out, thinking no, that wouldn't be right, after three years and with Sam touching Dean's wrist like he did. But of course it could be right - I'm just out of practice at thinking that way!

I actively didn't want them talking or thinking about it or negotiating it as something momentous or big

This makes sense and completely fits the mood of the story.

it's not something that can break them apart because nothing can do that, anymore.

I certainly love the idea of that!
