I'm back...

Feb 20, 2009 21:25

... and while my body is sighing the biggest sigh of relief I think it ever has, a part of my mind is still clinging to what was. I came home to a seemingly endless pile of phone messages, text messages, instant messages, email, snail mail, phone bills, rego bills, NRMA bills... for someone who's been living life at an average of about 18km/h for ( Read more... )

where everyone is climbing over the top of each other to reach the top of something I don't really think I care about anymore

That is exactly how I feel about the daily tasks most people perform. They just don't matter, they take up so much time that could be better used differently.

Welcome back :)

I can't wait to hear it all man! I am jealous and so proud of you buddy! :D

I think you left the "real world" behind, if for a bit to come back to this terrarium that many of us have to thrive in.

Everytime I think differently on that, I just go out again for a while and remember why the hustle and bustle of everyday life drains us all so severely.

Thanks Dru :) Yeah... at the moment it all seems so INTENSE, the contrast to what I've become accustomed to is quite startling. Everything's traffic jams and telemarketers and salespeople coming up to you on the street and people arguing about who's responsibility a certain job is... for the past month my life has been get up, eat, ride, eat some more, ride some more, take heaps of photos, eat and ride some more, find somewhere to stay, look around, take more photos, eat, shower and go to bed. And then the same the next day, and the day after that... hell, even the traffic's laid back in Tasmania compared to the mainland, and certainly compared to Brisbane.

A large part of me hopes I keep this perspective... although it separates me from others, I feel a lot happier in myself because of it.

But time will tell.

Bit of a culture shock, eh? Good luck with the root canal tomorrow, and I hope you have a happy birthday despite it. And I hope you're able to keep the things from your adventuring that you want to keep.Oh, and welcome back!

I'd like to think I only looked freshly dead, but that might have been my own optimism...
