Heck, I think the vast majority of them could stand to learn some basic Canadian history. There are a number of them that believe the English founded this country...

See, that's a tough one. I think they went about it all wrong. Be proud of who you are. But without belittling everyone around you... I think groups like this make a point that counters all the pro-black culture. ie. All black t.v. where as if we were to have all white t.v. we'd be the racist ones. *shrug* It's all very silly actually.

It *is* a tough one, but I think it's two quite different things. The 'pro black' culture we see is primarily limited to the US, and springs from the US history of slavery and segregation. The whole 'black and proud' is a response to that history. If you were to go to Africa, I think you'd find people there rather bemused by it. Anywhere else it's about culture and tribe, not skin colour.

There's really no reason or call for an 'all white' channel, as we are hardly underrepresented in the media ;)

but actual white supremacists is a whole new level of badness for any city.

Not for this one it isn't. I remember fighting skinheads in the late 80s. They've been inactive in public for a while is all.

I don't get the impression that the AG is 'historically' tied with the previous incarnations of white supremacists in Calgary, and that's the sense of 'new' I was aiming for. It's definitely happened here before, I remember the Jewish center down south being vandalized a number of times, and swastikas being spraypainted on the neighbourhood fences.

It used to be racist graffiti and people getting stabbed, so a peaceful demonstration is a step up, really :) And I don't know if there's a 'direct lineage' of membership from the old groups to the AG, but organized racism has existed in Calgary throughout the interim, certainly.
