I don't get the impression that the AG is 'historically' tied with the previous incarnations of white supremacists in Calgary, and that's the sense of 'new' I was aiming for. It's definitely happened here before, I remember the Jewish center down south being vandalized a number of times, and swastikas being spraypainted on the neighbourhood fences.
It used to be racist graffiti and people getting stabbed, so a peaceful demonstration is a step up, really :) And I don't know if there's a 'direct lineage' of membership from the old groups to the AG, but organized racism has existed in Calgary throughout the interim, certainly.
Depressingly difficult, yes. I gave up when their numbers had dwindled all on their own, they weren't killing people anymore, and I realized that nobody outside of a handful of street punks were affected and/or gave a damn. The last year or so has seen more nazi skin activity in Calgary than the previous 10.
Not for this one it isn't. I remember fighting skinheads in the late 80s. They've been inactive in public for a while is all.
