Now I am super tempted to try and work on a shimeji myself, I've got the whole of July to myself so I'd be able to draw all the frames and stuff with some patience :O are there any tutorials around that I can follow?

AT LAST, a version of this program I can run on my Mactop! \(^o^)/ The tutorial you linked in your DA entry was a big help, too. <3 It ran a LITTLE slow, but I suspect that that's more down to fact that I have a bajillion things open right now...I should try restarting and seeing if that makes a difference. Also, it seems like you only need to copy/paste from the img folder to get the program to run with the character you want. I didn't touch the conf file at all, and it still worked.
Heee...I wanna try out the Hunter and Smoker ones now, too.
Yeah I can't help you too much with the Mac stuff, haha. But at least he works!
That's odd though... he should need his conf files to do his full animations. Is his walk cycle four frames? Does he have a separate run when you call him to your mouse? Does he do a full swing across the top of the monitor? All of those should be kind of unique to him and set in his conf files. :O
Hmmm...okay, I was going by the DA tutorial for Macs, and that one completely left out the step about the conf files, so I wasn't sure. He WORKS without it, but yeah, it did feel like there were some frames missing, so I went back in and added those in, and lo and behold, he's running a lot smoother now. I think he had his run animation before, but the swing animation wasn't complete, and his hang animation was doing some weird things.
Heee...and now I'm watching him do a little belly crawl movement. (A SECRET THIEF TECHNIQUE, I'M SURE) Too cute!
Aha, just like I thought! A lot of people overlook conf files when writing up tutorials and such, haha, and to be fair they seem pretty mystifying if you haven't poked around in them a lot. BUT NOW YOU SEE HIM AS HE'S MEANT TO BE SEEN
And that means he works for Macs for sure! :D
hee hee his little crawl is so adorable. I also love how one of his clones crawls around a little after one of his spawns, so cute.
