Combining two of my favorite games in one tagline? SURE!
On an unrelated note, beat Trauma Center: New Blood! Hahahaha it's just as stupid and ridiculous as the first game. BUT I PLAY IT FOR THE OPERATIONS. Although I sadly never did get a chance to play it two player with anyone. I feel like I'm missing out on something. Must pester Alix to at least try an operation at some point.
Speaking of which, the
last Stigma wasn't as difficult I think as
Savato, but then again it didn't have a logicbreaking USE YOUR ONESHOT POWER TWICE trick to it. And nothing will ever be as obnoxious as
THOSE HORRIBLE TRIANGLES ARRRRRRRRRRGH BUT Trauma Center: New Blood has a beautiful, wonderful song for its credits sequence! And what's more, I found three remixes of it!
Jesus MixDoberman PinchGlass Pain These vocalists are obviously geniuses with the voices of angels. These remixes are works of art! No... works of GOD!
You should listen to them. Hint hint.
Anyway ARE WE ACTUALLY GOING TO DO SOMETHING NOW, OR KEEP TALKING TO PEOPLE? LET'S FIND OUT!
Previous Editions Time to pick up a spell or two!
Well one because they are mad expensive. Fetch has the most immediate benefits, so I'll go for that one!
Wooo...?
TIME TO LEAVE THIS ONE HORSE TOWN
There's this short little ditty that plays when you leave the town that I've always loved. It's just kind of silly and lighthearted, and immediately recognizable. :D
The Hero's March.
Keep turnin turnin turnin
Let's head north!
I think we've found the Healer!
LET ME IN THERE'S A DINOSAUR BIRD OUT HERE
I like the Healer. You will be seeing her a lot.
Her hut just has a
fairly mellow theme to it, just kind of plucky and sorta cheerful.
Weirdly enough, I don't think you run into these in the other games. Unless Wyverns count.
I WILL FIND YOUR RING BECAUSE THAT IS MY JOB
God, it's so nice to be able to buy these for now. Make leveling so much easier.
Basically, how long you can keep doing the same thing, and how long you can fight in battle. If you run out of stamina, you'll start dragging out your hitpoints until you die. :O Also possibly running out of stamina in battle might lead to instant death, I forget.
This is new.
This is why I know what an unguent is. WILL WE NEED THIS? YOU BET.
Zombies really like nice, dry places.
I'll see if I can show you guys these in a bit. :D
I like that idea. IT'S NOT ALL MIXING IN THE RIGHT PROPORTIONS
These are a pretty good deal... once you're good enough to kill trolls. although sometimes after long runs at night we'd end up with way more healing potions than we ever needed.
A nice cheap source of income, and easy too!
You don't say.
These can be tricky, because you can easily load up on cheetaur claws and accidentally start carrying too much and screw up your stat screen.
As the game goes on you also get approximately eight billion empty flasks since every potion you use or drink ends up with an empty flask. You really never have to buy any.
At midnight you say
will this information be important later? YOU DECIDE!
MUST RETURN MISSING CHILDREN
Their LEADER did what
Hahaha I'm picturing her hut full of brigands all shamefaced. "me sorry"
I THINK I KNOW WHERE IT IS
first i must climb this tree
TADAH
I cut out my many attempts to climb this tree for your convenience.
Your nest is mine, birdy
Your climbing has to be at 15 to climb this tree. NO PROBLEM!
LIKE A SWAN IN FLIGHT
Anyway, getting the Healer's ring is one of the first multisolution puzzles you run into.
Thieves are supposed to climb up and get the nest that way.
Magic Users just catch fetch on it.
AND FIGHTERS THROW ROCKS
And so I threw a lot of rocks. ALSO CUT THIS FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE. Yet the nest continued to defy me.
Man my throw is at 21 and I still can't hit this thing, what a jip.
Oh frick it's a bit later than I thought
Castle is locked. :O
Although if you're really good at climbing you can actually climb inside the walls. So far I am not good at climbing.
ANOTHER GATE
WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO
So I basically threw my hero at this wall for a while until...
I officially ran out of stamina. No good! I have to find somewhere else to stay. :O
Thankfully I know just the place. I've practically memorized this forest, so I know the way to almost every little area. But finding the way to Erana's Peace is very easy. From here, just go north.
There's... maybe two screens in this forest that look like this. If you're running from something, if you run into this screen, you're probably near Erana's Peace and can just duck in there. Go right of course.
And north.
And here we are at Erana's Peace! This was always one of my favorite places as a kid... it's just so pretty here, and the music is so calming. Sometimes I'd just come in here when I was feeling afraid or down and just listen to the music and pretend I was there. In my heart I've always wanted to find a special place like this somewhere, that no one knows about. Someplace totally safe, where nothing could hurt me. lol issues. But I still love this place regardless. I love all the sanctuaries you can find throughout the games. I just like places where you always know you'll be safe.
Anyway, this place has some of the very few remixes for Quest for Glory, and I love them all very much. I love the music here so much you don't even know.
Erana's Peace is just a delicate, gentle... as weird as this sounds to say, to me this song has a feeling to it that says "magic", although I'm not sure you can usually use that to describe music. Probably just because of where I know it plays, but it just has a kind of beautiful, almost sad sound to it at points. God I love this song, seriously.
The Magic Meadow is just a version of it done on an acoustic guitar, and it's gorgeous. It really works for that kind of thing.
All Life is just a kind of synthy remix of it I found on VGMix about eight billion years ago. Includes a fun little voice clip! Can you identify what it's from?
Take That You Quadra Mix is another synthy version, a bit more upbeat than the above but still.
Bunch of kids went and tagged it the punks
Is that what they're called? :O I never knew they had a name.
Mmmm strawberries.
You can pick up two bouquets of flowers at a time to take back and give to the Healer. It's not like it's a terribly long trip, but they didn't want you just shoving tons of them in your bag to make some quick cash either.
You can't run or sneak in Erana's Peace. :O
Heh, I just like the image of the hero curling up in the flowers.
There we go, a more clear shot of Erana's Peace in the day. As implied, no monsters will ever follow you in here, and nothing will get you at night if you sleep here. Not only that, but sleeping here will replenish your stamina, health, AND mana to full. And it's free! Not a bad place to stay if you're leveling, and me and Alix tended to use it for that purpose.
Also, free rations! But you could only eat one a day.
My god I wanted to eat one of these as a kid. SO BADLY.
Oh yeah, my spell menu! Here you go.
Little pictographs. Expertise in a spell is really, in my opinion, not that important. Maybe it pumps the power of Flame Dart or something, but generally it doesn't seem all that important. Unless you're a completionist. Cough.
Why'd my luck go up wtf
HELP A BLACK THING
Actually a Saurus, but there's already a graphical error as you can see. These happen a lot. BUT ENOUGH OF THAT, LET'S TANGO
"Hostile intent is evident" is a phrase that's been stuck in my head my whole life because of this game.
BATTLE TIME WOOOOO
Battle in QFG is fairly simple, all things considered. It's realtime, so you generally want to move quickly. I also suspect that it's somewhat broken, since the VGA version of this is somewhat buggy BUT HEY IT WORKS OUT FINE FOR ME
The Battle Music is dramatic, but has some echoes of the main theme in it. :D You hear it a lot.
Battle Theme slightly enhanced
Battle Theme more in tune with the game itself
And a slightly faster version! To this day, just the "duuuuh duh duh duh duh Duuuuuuh" sticks in my head from the beginning of this.
That little thing in the corner there are the controls for battle. The top left I have my cursor on is slash, and the one to the right of it is jab. Below that are dodge and parry. You click on each symbol for what you want your hero to do. Each takes stamina of course, and if you run out, bad news for you.
If you're a thief or a magic user, you can click the star in the center and switch to magic controls, letting you cast zap or flame dart, as well as dodge and the like. BUT FIGHTERS CAN'T DO THAT. >( I just have to cast flame dart on trees all by my lonesome.
Basically, you just want to slash or jab as quickly as possible with easier monsters like this. As your weapon use and strength and everything rise, you'll be able to hit more often and easily, so you can just spam monsters to death. Early on though, you need to be more careful, especially with brigands. You basically just need to time your attacks and dodges carefully, until your hero is buff enough to take things out without a sweat. My hero here is just starting, but I can handle a Saurus no problem.
HA VICTORY
Heh. This is the only visual description you get for things you kill.
One of the more annoying things about Sauruses. They never drop anything good.
ANYWAY LET'S SNEAK ON OUTTA HERE
Back into town and hey there's a centaur here
Hahahahaha, this message always pops up on this screen if you come in. Me and Alix would try to outrun it by zipping through the screen as fast as possible. And yet, we'd always get stopped by "the centaur stops raking as you approach". EVERY TIME.
Hey aren't you an extra from Willow?
than what fruit i'm sorry
Mmm peaches
THEY ARE GOD'S PEACHES, THEY ARE RAINBOW COLORED
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
You know I think these two are the only centaurs you see in the QFG series. There are Liontaurs later but that's not really the same thing. HMM.
Alright whatevs I'm outta here
FINALLY KNOCKED THE NEST DOWN GOD
Rocks can really weigh your hero down, so drop any you don't need.
I BROUGHT YOU FLOWERS :B
Six gold, sweet
:O
SHE'S FOLLOWING YOU RUN
Anyway, now that the castle is awake!
The Baron's Castle just has this very dramatic trumpety fanfare, and then a kind of subdued little theme afterwards. It gets stuck in your head. :O
HEY KARL WHAT'S UP
Working in the stables doesn't really pay a lot (you get more for running flowers back and forth) but it DOES pump your strength, which isn't bad.
BEEFY MAN ARMS FOR THE HORSES PLEASURE
I mean anyone can tell that, baba yaga's a jerk
Man people cannot let go of the braid thing can they
THE SKULLS MAKE FINE CONVERSATIONALISTS
She has all these trees that come over and watch the game and they get real mean when they're drunk
HMMMM.
"Just get out"
"GET OUT GET OUT HOW DARE YOU TELL ME TO GET OUT"
"seriously get out"
"HOW ABOUT SOME SKELETONS HA HA HA HA"
">("
That always creeped me out as a kid. That mental image I mean.
Proud, yeah, you could put it that way.
THAT TITLE IS MINE
The town's goth population suffered heavy losses
In case you want to loaf around the tombstones. I'M SOLD.
THERE'S SOMETHING SUSPICIOUS ABOUT THESE GUYS
DON'T YOU THINK?
That i totally could have talked to last night if I hadn't been throwing rocks at a bird's nest. OH WELL MAYBE LATER
Hmm, the bane of my existence isn't here today. I'll have to come back later.
HEY YOU LOAFER
I'm clicking my hand on you
WOOPS
i actually didn't think that would happen :O oh well, restore
FINE BE THAT WAY LAZY
Let's check the stables! :D
Tee hee.
You can also feed the horsies with the vegetables you get in town if you want. |D
JUST SKULKING AROUND TO PET THE HORSES I MEAN
UH YEAH
THAT'S IT
The
goofiest little theme plays while you do this.
HARD WORK
AGH
A JOB WELL DONE
FIVE SILVERS OH BOY
He needs to get his priorities in order!
IT'S THE DEVIL'S WORK
:O
Hehehe.
If it's late in the afternoon, you can also sleep in the stable, although you'll have to work again when you wake up and it's not terribly comfortable. But it's still a place to stay. :O
Not bad! My stealth at least won't take too much longer, it looks like.
There's so much to do in this game. :O I'm not sure where to start! But I guess we'll see where I head in
the next edition.
