Why Hawaii Five-Oh is Awesome, Reasons #1 - #7

Jan 07, 2011 14:42

#1 Because it’s fun.

It's fun and sunshine-y and works like a happy pill. Have I mentioned that it’s fun? And the actors clearly agree.

Yes, me too! I don't have any H50 icons just yet, which is a shame. In fact, we should both be ashamed of ourselves. Very. *nods*

That's always the hard part, isn't it? I always find it hard to part with icons of other/former fandoms because that means admitting I'm done with them.

I'd watch it, too. Twice. And then a third time, just to make sure I really caught all of Danny's expressions. And then a fourth time to stare at Steve's face.

...the two of them in a car is like an honesty zone, where they can trust each other that what’s said in the car, stays in the car. This! OH MY GOD, yes!

And a Surfer!Steve AU? I can't wait! (I just added you to my flist. Hope that's okay!)

ISN'T IT?! Really, the car is when they're at their most honest, and it's like there's this common understanding that the car is their little haven where they can say anything, and it's okay.

Yes! I just started really writing it, but I hope to keep it short (short by my standards, which means no more than 10'000 words) and finish soon-ish. It has boys being stupid and bad at communication!

(Of course not, not at all! Want a beer?)

It is made of love and is my happy place! I TOTALLY approve your primer!

A friend and I have developed a ridiculous couch dance for the opening credits - there is much hand waving, but I get so excited each time it comes on I just can't sit still. I also have it as my ring-tone - ridiculous me, because when I hear it I start dancing around. So dignified.

It's funny, how fandom is reacting so far, because it's a cop show, so there's SO MUCH potential for all kinds of long, plotty investigations etc, and so far I think I've seen one fic that actually even starts to go there. Nearly everything being written is short, and based on the banter (which is awesome, don't get me wrong).

Then again, I'm failing at writing MY long, plot based fic, so maybe everyone else is simply struggling against the tide of trying to be clever AND write them all in character.

I love your Surfer!Steve idea. You always set the scene so beautifully, your fics are like taking a vacation somewhere exotic. Delicious!

Ahaha, I want to see that couch dance. Does it include air guns pointed at the screen?

SO MUCH potential for all kinds of long, plotty investigations
Yes, but those can be daunting to write because you need to get so much background right, because you need to give original characters some serious thought, because you need to plot a crime that's clever enough not to be solved in five minutes. It's really tough to make believable, I think.

But! Maybe there would be more epics out there if there was a Big Bang challenge? Is there a H50 Big Bang? Because, oh dear sweet heaven, I WANT A H50 BIG BANG. Please tell me there is one. Maybe that would motivate you, too?

Fics set in vacation-like settings, I usually write those when I'm longing for sunshine and the sea. So, yeah. *g* Also:

The circle of the sun hasn’t separated from the mountains’ silhouette just yet, flooding the sky with a pale orange color. This early in the morning, there is no competition for the best waves, no surfboards knocking together in the line up, no posers ( ... )

LOL

It involves drum hands, and hula hands - no air guns yet, but it's always open to elaboration.

Yes, I'm discovering that myself, re the long and plotty. Despite having the bones of it in my head, the colouring in of all the pieces in between is just ... hard work. >.>

I believe there has been talk of a H50 Big Bang - I can't remember where I've seen it, but I imagine it was on one of the H50 comms. It would be the shiniest of shiny things, and my brain would be subsumed in an avalanche of ficly goodness.

I still hold you personally responsible for a period in my life where I ate more Italian food than anything else. Every time you posted an update, I had to cook pasta or something, and that still applies when I re-read.

Finally - Oh my! *happy sigh* That is beautiful. Go, write!

*shoos you off and points you at a keyboard*

I vote for including air guns and shooting gestures. *nods*

There is a H50 Big Bang opening in January, apparently! See: hawaii_bigbang. Wonderful, wonderful. *rubs hands in glee*

Italian food is awesome and good, and I will happily take the blame! I mean, at least it's more healthy than burgers?

I have more than 4000 words now! Am kind of currently battling with The Usual Worries (is it boring? do the characters work? is the pacing fine? ugh.) and will probably not write anymore today, but hey, a break often helps. I hope. *grimaces*

Your reasons are all awesome and so totally valid and this, the thing is that I like differences, I like contrasts, and boys who snark at each other fascinate me, just, yes, so totally my thing in fandom, too.

And your surfer!AU? OHMYGODTHISMAKESMEGO"YISSSSS!"WRITEITWRITEITWRITEITWRITEIT!!!

*coughs* Basically, yes. And make it with lots of snark and everyone snickering at how obvious clueless!Danno is when he says he wants to supervise each and every one lesson that Grace has. Because, yeah, sure. You only want her best. ;-)

Yes! Contrasts and differences that, in the end, don't matter because what matters is the way they feel about each other! It's totally schmoopy, yes, but SO WHAT?!

I started writing it, actually! And it's fun, but also a challenge because my surfing knowledge is limited and I'm doing lots of research. And heh, now that I started writing it, it seemed more logical to have Kono teach Grace while Danny hangs around the shop and he and Steve have time getting to know each other. I think it works better that way; Kono would be the one teaching kids.

Yesyesyes. A pretty big reason why my first OTP was Harry/Draco. You can't get more contrast than that, and when the writer throws in heaps of snarky banter, I'm gone. ^-^ And yeah - it's the luuuurve that matters in the end. ;-)

Heeee! Great news, that, yis. *is already looking forward to it leik whoa* I agree about Kono, too - I rewatched 1x02 yesterday evening and ahahaha, that scene in the elevator where Steve frightens the wee boy with the hippo? And Danny's all, "I admire your way with kids." afterwards? *snickers* Yeah, Steve wouldn't do well with kids. He's more fit to teach grown-ups who can stand a bit of Steve!snark, methinks. ;-)
