Capturing December: favorite Carol

I love Christmas music, but this is probably my favorite. I think the story behind it is almost as moving as the the song itself.  "Where Hate is strong, and mocks the song of Peace on Earth Goodwill to Men" does seem particularly appropriate this week.

I used to have a whole book of the stories behind Christmas Carols. This was always my favorite! Also, I'm currently about halfway through watching Ken Burns Civil War, so it's been sticking in the back of my mind.

My folks had a book about the stories behind christmas carols when I was growing up. This one in particular always struck me, and the song itself is so moving! And this version is haunting.
