Bleach/Detective Conan: Regret

Apr 30, 2008 03:11

Bleach/Detective Conan.  I can't believe I finally did it, after all those times I told myself I wouldn't.  I don't even know where this came from, just that it had to be written.  Now.  Anyway.  The main fic index is here.  On with the show!

Title:  Regret
Word Count:  177
Rating:  G
Obligatory Disclaimer:  I do not own Bleach or Detective Conan, and that's probably for the best.
Summary:  Just a short scene between Kisuke and Ai.  (I can't write summaries to save my life tonight.)
Notes:  I blame
marsdejahthoris for this.  I can only resist the crossovers for so long, you know.   Oddly enough, it really wanted to be called "Hougyoku," even though the Detective Conan muses were actually the ones driving it.  Weird.

"Have you ever made something you wish you hadn't?" Ai asked suddenly.

Kisuke glanced down at his curious young guest.  She wasn't looking at him, but he could somehow sense that she was very interested in his answer.  Following her gaze, he saw three of her friends-the genuinely childlike ones-dog piled on Ichigo while the fourth-the one who did a disturbingly effective job of hiding behind his glasses-tried in vain to get them off.  Ai was completely focused on the leader of their strange little five child band, the one who'd called himself Conan.

Kisuke had seen that wistful smile, gone twisted and bitter around the edges, many a time in the mirror, and even he didn’t wear it well.  On Ai, it looked heartbreakingly out of place.  He turned away, and fixed his eyes on his own last, best hope-his own knight in broken armor.

"Yes," he answered quietly.  She nodded once, and said no more.  They sat in silence, without closing their eyes, as the world played out around them.
