The Up Up And Away Restoration Project: Boiling

Jun 19, 2008 20:57

I did this several weeks ago, but didn't do a writeup because I AM LAZY.
But here we are.

Prior to bleaching, I decided to boil Up, Up and Away to get rid of some of the mold inside of her.

Description of the process, and photos )

Eek. That's a pretty serious mold-job there. D:

You know, I *really* don't understand why people FREAK OUT at the thought of pouring bleach into their Ponies, but have no problem plunking them into a pot of boiling water. I'm *terrified* of boiling my Ponies--why the fuck don't they melt?! It's flimsy plastic in BOILING WATER. @_@

(But you did it, so clearly it's not as scary as I make it out to be. I trust you over everyone at MLPArena right now. XD )

my big brother put one of my ponies in the microwave when I was little. He said it would glow in the dark after the microwave treatment. It's rump melted. I still remember that traumatic moment watching my pony melt.

But yeah boiling should be fine.

Forget boiling, I'm terrified of BAKING ponies. Oy, the things people do in the name of customization. xD

Boiling is good if you have a pony that can't stand up because her legs have been pushed out of place due to being squished in an awkward position over a long period of time. It softens the plastic and makes it go back in the proper position. Aaaand it's also really good for getting rid of outside pin dot mold.

...You can BAKE Ponies?! Dude, I thought people were just really, REALLY good at forming clay to their Ponies, then *peeling it off* without damaging the shape, baking it on it's own, then gluing it on!

o_o

Well. I guess Brilliant Bloom would be a good test subject for this. I need to do something about the hole in her head anyway...

PS - Just for you, here's a shot of the inside of Brilliant Bloom's head. You can see the hot pink line going along her plug holes. Dunno, man. It was all the same light pink while I was de-maning her, but as soon as I turned the shower on and brought her in, the humidity touched her and it turned *HOT PINK*.
