I am not the one who nominated D&D this year, but I have written it for Yuletide in the past (last year, even!), and have seen it both nommed and written plenty before. I'm not sure why it is being called out this year as being too broad. Narrowing down to a specific campaign seem like it would be pretty limiting, and you'd basically wind up asking for very obscure original characters... And requestors don't have to ask for specific characters anyway, do they? If you meant narrow it down to a particular campaign *setting*, like Greyhawk or Eberon, or Ravenloft, that makes more sense to me but doesn't really fix the character issue - would it be possible just to leave out the character tag completely?

(I think I do know who nominated it, and I'll check with them and get them to reply as well if so, but apparently I have Opinions >.>)

Thank you for the information. We will consider it with anything we hear from the nominator before making a decision.

I am not the nominator either, but as someone who plays Dungeons & Dragons, I would like to second this person's comment. They said exactly what I would have.

I am definitely not the person who nominated 'Greek Tragedy' and those characters, but if I recall correctly from minoring in Classics years ago, that should be Aeschylus's Oresteia, which is one play cycle. Hope my $0.02 are at least somewhat helpful, although it's probably better to get a confirmation from the person who actually did that nomination in case I've missed something.

It is helpful. I'm not sure that Iphigenia appear on stage in the Oresteia, but she is certainly referenced. Hopefully the nominator will reply, as well. Thanks!

I am also not the nominator, but there is no single play/play cycle in which all of those characters appear on stage, but multiple plays in which all either appear _or_ are mentioned.

Hopefully the nommer will reply to say which they intended. Thank you for the extra info.

Kamen Rider Double: Not the nominator, but I think who they're referring to is Terui Ryu's sister Haruko.

EDIT: SCRATCH THAT, Haruna is the daughter of Terui Ryu and Narumi Akiko seen offscreen in one of the combo films. (This is what I get for not watching Drive...) http://kamenrider.wikia.com/wiki/Haruna_Terui

Thank you for the information. Hopefully the nominator will reply, as it would seem that a different fandom would be a better case for including her, if that is the character they mean.

See it's complicated - the Kamen series don't overlap at all, they reboot with new characters and a new premise every season, but there are ... crossover movies? where sometimes characters from the old series show up in a movie about characters from the new series, which makes it a fun little twist for longtime fans. But the Double characters aren't actually PART of Drive, and that storyline does not affect their actual lives, and they're not part of the Drive continuity. I'll let the nominator add onto this, but I would definitely say that Haruna would not be part of Drive, she would be part of Double.

tldr; the Double characters make cameos in Gaim, OOO, Drive etc., but are not part of that continuity and it would be weird to use Drive as the fandom (I think) unless nominator for some reason wants Haruna interacting with the Drive characters and not the Double ones

Thank you for clarifying this - it is helpful to learn more about such complicated fandoms. We'll have to consider this carefully before making a decision on allowing the character and fandom, changing, or rejecting it.

I'm the one who nominated Downbelow Station. It was my understanding that Alliance-Union as such would be ineligible under the current rules, as it includes several sub-series that have no characters, settings, or time periods in common. I'd be happy to have Damon Konstantin and Elene Quen included in Alliance-Union if it was included, though.

(The Alliance-Union universe is a bit complicated as far as which books are included in which sub-series, though. In some cases, it's clear-cut, in others, less so. It could probably argued that all the nominated characters could be included under the Company Wars umbrella.)

I nominated Ari I, Grant, Joshua, and Signy under Alliance-Union.

I don't mind a split, but as minutia_r said, it's not clear how one should partition the canon. Also, while this universe functions somewhat like Discworld wrt continuity*, it is a much smaller fandom, and in a past year when I attempted to nominate by subseries, the names I tried don't seem to have been easily recognizable (at least by the decline-blip that year in requests and offers).

If you do choose to split, the nominated characters appear in the following books:
Cyteen/Regenesis: Ariane Emory I, Grant ALX-972
Downbelow Station: Signy Mallory, Damon Konstantin, Elene Quen, Joshua Talley
The other Company Wars books: Allison Reilly, Bet Yeager, Capella, Meg Kady; also Signy Mallory, Joshua Talley

* It even has "subseries" that the fandom treats as separate entities-- e.g. the fandoms traditionally nominated as The Chronicles of Morgaine and Chanur Series technically come from the same universe, but everyone knows they're not in the intended canon for an ( ... )

I'm the nominator of that one, and yes, I'm fine with folding Gwynn into Mabinogion!
