There are thousands of people watching this comm, and they are here for the awesome of brainstorming and chat and recs and all the other fun satellite stuff that comes along with Yuletide each year. That makes us super-happy, and we welcome all the ways in which people make their Yuletides even more awesome and fun -- with the following exceptions:
yuletide is not for tech support or personal questions. If you have a specific question or problem, please read the FAQ (which, okay, needs updating), read recent
yuletide_admin posts, check the tags, and if you still can't find an answer, email us for help.
yuletide is ALSO not for complaints about our process, other participants, or your stories. We are really busy and this is a massive undertaking. Our decisions are made based on, in order of priority, (1) making it possible at all, (2) making it endurable for us, (3) making it fun and happymaking for the participants.
If you have a great suggestion or important information you think we need to have or that you think should alter the process in some way, it should come directly to us at yuletide@yuletidetreasure.org, and if we agree and also feel that we can make the change without going nuts, we will take it from there.
One specific note about the "eligible fandoms":
While the list posted was termed the "list of eligible fandoms," there will be some small changes to it, both to potentially include fandoms that were automatically (and sometimes mistakenly) stripped out, and to remove some fandoms. This was always the plan, as we assured people who were stressing about the possibilities for trouble early on.
Please note, there were 4522 fandoms nominated this year. FOUR THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED. If you are upset that we are automating the process of winnowing them or unhappy with the results...sorry, but we really don't care to hear it. Feel free to let us know if there are fandoms you nominated that you think should have been kept, or if there are fandoms you think shouldn't be on the list, but don't be surprised if we don't agree.
We have a post up in the admin journal where you can offer manual corrections and help address any resulting issues in a productive way, and there are people working like dogs behind the scenes to try and integrate those corrections as fast as they can.
Note: if you think you have a better concept for the automation and can write a reliable piece of code with a good UI that will do it better than the one we have and not break in a year, please come volunteer with the AO3 and do it! We will be very happy and shower you with ♥ and we will use it next year!
Frankly, for us, this is a non-issue. We aren't terribly concerned that some participants might be "getting away" with something or that some fandoms that aren't truly rare/obscure/inactive are slipping through, or even that all the corrections get done, especially if that lets us open signup earlier and keeps us relatively happy and as unstressed as possible.
What we are concerned with is that everyone gets to share some fandoms they love, and that everyone gets a story in a fandom and with characters they requested. We'd rather people not make themselves and others unhappy by focusing on what might happen for other people...but if you can't avoid that, then Yuletide may not be for you.
Note: I'm leaving comments turned on, but I will not be arguing, defending, or explaining our policies.
Folks,
we're closing this post.
