Nominations certainly can exist without characters. If someone wants to offer it, they generally tick a box marked "Any", if I recall correctly. :)

... um, is this the final solution for the Moriarty issue? Three tags for one character? Which one am I supposed to use when requesting, exactly?

If I recall correctly, the mods contacted the original nominators and one of them had deliberately nominated "Irene Adler (Elementary)" and "Moriarty (Elementary)" separately, for some reason. The mods went with this solution so that that person can still request as they want while other people can go for the "Irene Adler | Moriarty (Elementary)" tag if they want.

Right, but the problem is that this solution makes no sense - Moriarty and Irene are NOT separate characters - and it potentially fucks up the matching for everyone else who wants to request or offer her. There is no good reason to offer the same character under different names.

The original nominator said she didn't want "Irene" fic, but that would hardly be an issue when Irene is just a persona and Moriarty is the underlying character. And that's the kind of thing that should be left to a requester's optional details anyway.

My proposed solution: just have one tag, "Moriarty". I.e. the main name the character goes by.
