I'm confused as to why "Spider-Man (Ultimateverse)" was merged into "Marvel Ultimates" when the push this year seems to have been towards more specific fandom names in order to facilitate matching. Not only is it somewhat confusing (if I hadn't nominated it myself, I'd just assume Miles Morales and his family and friends weren't nominated at all this year and that "Marvel Ultimates" applied to the Ultimates team and their dedicated titles) it also turns the character list into a much broader group that is harder to offer "Any" for, something that it seems was deliberately avoided with things like Historical RPF.

You're right about that. I just finished browsing the cartoons&comics category and completely missed that Miles and co. were in it! I just assumed Marvel Ultimates referred to the Ultimates team, and I don't read any of their titles so I skipped over it.

I agree that the fact there are titles called "Ultimates" makes it seem like Spider-Man isn't in the title and would like it better if the titles were split up.

And if you really want to merge it, it should probably be "Marvel Ultimateverse" as to avoid confusion.

But merging all the titles of a universe that has been going on for 13 years and has had a dozen titles just because they're in the same universe seems weird to me? Yuletide certainly avoids merging things in the same universe the vast majority of the time except if it's only 2 or 3 titles, it seems. We wouldn't have any spin-off, or any Marvel or DC comics fandom at all if merging was the default.

Anyway my two cents.

It has the weird double effect of burying Spider-Man (which tends to be the Ultimate title that Yuletide participants are most interested in) where people aren't going to look for it while also making it harder for, say, whoever nominated Johnny and Susan or Wanda and Pietro to match on those characters if someone who might otherwise have offered Ultimates, Ultimate X-Men, or Ultimate Fantastic Four in addition to Ultimate Spider-Man ends up only offering Spider-Man characters ( ... )
