Ryo drove Shige to a place that repairs glasses a few blocks away. Once Ryo parked, he reched into the back seat, grabbed a hat and put it on his head.
Shige glared at him. "Am I really THAT embarassing to be seen with?"
"With those dorky taped glasses, yes." Ryo snickered as they stepped out of the car.
The guy at the counter of the glasses place said it would take about an hour to mend them. Shige sat down and read a magazine quietly, but Ryo didn't have the patience for that. He walked out of the store and took a look around the area, but he was frustrated to find that there wasn't much around.
He was walking down the sidewalk slowly, trying to kill time on the way back when he caught a glimpse of a toy vending machine with a bunch of cartoon cats on it. Ryo laughed as he walked over to it.
"Get a Wagahai ring! Get a Wagahai stamp! You can even get a special Wagahai figurine! And much much more for just 100yen!~" The sign read.
Haha, Kato-kun would like this..he thought as he inserted a 100 yen coin into the slot and turned the bar. Out popped a round plastic container. Ryo took it out and opened it, pulling out a long string with a Wagahai figurine on the end. Ryo laughed as he brought it to eye level and examined it. It's kinda cute, actually..
Ryo walked back into the store and found Shige on the phone.
"No, Mom, I'm out with the boy I'm tutoring...........no........I'm sure he's busy tonight..........no I'm not gonna ask him..he doesn't lik-"
"Not gonna ask me what?"
Shige jumped in surprise as he looked behind him to see that Ryo was standing there. He brought the phone away from his ear and put his hand over it.
"Nothing..my mom wants me to ask you if you want to come over for dinner....I told her that you're probably bus-"
"I'm never too busy for free food." Ryo smiled. Even though his family was well-off, he was still a cheapskate.
Shige looked at him, confused, as he brought the phone back to his ear to tell his mother. "Um..mom...he said he wants to come..yeah...I guess we'll be there soon." Shige flipped the phone shut.
Ryo slunk down into a chair and crossed his legs. "So, is your mom any good at cooking?"
Shige sat in the chair next to him. "She's amazing, trust me." He smiled.
Ryo nodded as he reached into his pocket and threw the plastic container into Shige's lap. "I found this...I thought you'd like it.."
Shige looked down at it and picked it up, popping it open and lifting it out by the string. He looked at the Wagahai with a big grin on his face. "Ahh, kawaii!"
"You like it?" Ryo asked happily.
Shige smiled at him. "Yeah"
~~~~
After Shige's glasses were mended, Ryo drove to Shige's house, and parked outside.
"So this is your house?" Ryo asked as he got out of the car and shut the door.
"Yeah.." Shige mumbled, almost embarassed because of the questionable tone of Ryo's voice.
Ryo nodded, examining it while walking behind Shige to the front door.
He stopped. "Oh my God, you can smell it even out here..." His mouth watered to taste whatever it was he was smelling.
"I told you she was amazing." Shige smirked.
Shige took out his keys and opened the door, both of them stepping in. They were met by his mother who came running.
"Mom, this is the boy I'm tutoring, Nishikido-san." Shige motioned to Ryo.
"Ah, nice to meet you! What a handsome boy you are..welcome to our home, please make yourself at home." She smiled warmly and spoke in a gentle tone that made Ryo comfortable almost immediately.
Ryo bowed. "Thank you. Nice to meet you as well, Kato-san."
"Dinner should be ready soon, I made a lot for you two growing boys, so get your appetites ready!" She grinned as she walked back off into the kitchen.
Ryo was amazed at how gentle she was. And Shige's house was so warm and welcoming.
~~~
The two sat down at the table which was full of food. Ryo's mouth watered, and he wished he could just devour the feast whole. He wasn't the type to eat a lot, but his senses could not resist this.
Throughout dinner, Shige laughed at Ryo when he kept saying "Umai!" with wide eyes, in utter disbelief that food could taste so good. His mom blushed. "Nishikido-san, I'm so glad you are enjoying it. I'm so thankful that you're taking time out to help my Shige, this was the least I could do~" she smiled.
"Oh, no, don't worry about it, he's helping me so much with school. I know I'm gonna pass my next tests." Ryo smiled back.
"Oh, that's so good to hear. I'm sure you'll pass with flying colors, you're a bright boy, I can tell just by looking at you."
Ryo blushed slightly. "Thank you..."
Shige smiled at them both as he chewed.
~~~
After dinner, the two walked to Shige's bedroom.
"I love your mom." Ryo said boldly.
Shige just laughed. "That's what everyone says when they come over." He opened the door and walked into the room, Ryo following behind.
"So, this is your room?" Ryo asked, looking around.
The room was a light shade of blue. On his desk were books, neatly stacked. No posters, just a bulletin board on the wall with several pictures pinned to it. On the floor was a rug, and a small table close to the ground. The bed was a normal size, with a plaid blue comforter and a few throw pillows. Surprisingly, it was exactly how Ryo pictured it in his head.
Shige walked over to the bulletin board and pinned up the Wagahai's string so it dangled. Ryo smiled. I guess he really did like it.
"Well..we never did get to finish your lesson.." Shige pointed out. The glasses incident interrupted everything, and Shige almost forgot that the day was supposed to be dedicated to teaching Ryo about physics.
"You're not gonna push me into a wall again are you?" Ryo glared, having actually forgotten about the incident until now.
Shige laughed."No..for the rest of the time we have to go over some problems." Shige walked over to his desk and grabbed a physics workbook, bringing it to the small table and sitting on the floor. Ryo followed, even though the last thing he wanted to do was physics.
"How are you with equations?" Shige asked, hoping he knew at least the basic ones.
"I pretty much hate them and want them to jump off a cliff so I can laugh at them as they hit the ground and die a painful death." Ryo answered, almost too seriously.
Shige looked at him, almost frightened. "O....kay then. Why don't we start with the basics, like finding velocity, or acceleration."
Ryo groaned, not wanting to do any of it.
Shige turned to one of the beginning pages. "You don't remember any of this?"
Ryo scooted over close to Shige so he could see the pages. "Um...I remember not understanding it, but that's pretty much it."
"Hmm..okay. What didn't you understand?"
"The problems..there's like eight thousand parts to this shit. How are you supposed to know what equation or whatever to use?"
"You have to make a list of all the things you know, and then you can figure it out more easily. Look." Shige leaned over to write down the problem and the steps, his leg leaning unintentionally against Ryo's.
Ryo became a bit anxious because of how close they were, and didn't really understand why. His eyes slowly glanced at Shige's messy hair, his shoulders, his arms, back and waist....before looking at Shige's face which now was looking back at him, smiling, catching him off guard. "Try this, see if it's easier."
Ryo snapped back into reality, away from whatever he was just thinking. "Ha-Huh? What? Sorry..I kinda zoned out for a second."
Shige shook his head. "I set up the problem for you...if you set it up like this everytime I think it'll make it easier for you. Try it." He said handing Ryo the pencil.
Ryo took it, fingertips slipping over Shige's soft fingers in the process. "Uh-....oh, that's right..physics..."
