Chapter 3: Lessons

The next two days Ryo actually chose to show up to the tutor center after school, and his lessons began. The lessons were painful for the both of them. Mainly because neither of them particularly liked the other, but also because Ryo couldn't understand anything Shige was saying, and Shige became frustrated with Ryo's blank stares and the constant interruption of Ryo's cell phone. Things were off to a shaky start, and it was Thursday, which meant that it was time for Shige's lessons.

Ryo arrived at the tutor center early, almost excited for the lesson to begin. He was happy to be "the expert" instead of the other way around. Ryo had always liked to be in control, after all. Shige dragged himself nervously to the door of the tutor center, not particularly happy about being the less experienced of the two, and also regretting agreeing to what seemed like it would be a free pass for Ryo to mock him and tease him even more. He gripped the doorknob firmly and hesitantly turned the silver knob and walked into the room. Ryo was sitting there, talking to Runa, who was one of the other tutors. Ryo's eyed Shige and smirked.

"It's about time, Kato-kun. I'ts time for me to tutor you" he said smugly. "Runa-chan agreed to help us today."
Shige bowed in thanks to Runa, though he wasn't exactly sure what he was thanking her for.
Ryo got up from his chair and motioned for Shige to sit in it in his place. Shige reluctantly walked over and sat in the chair which was across from Runa.
"So...Kato-kun...how bad off are we? I mean...I'm guessing you've never kissed a girl before, am I right?" Ryo snickered, enjoying this thoroughly.
Shige blushed in the presence of Runa, who was smiling at him. Why does he have to say that in front of her? Shige shook his head in embarassment.
"Okay..then..here" Ryo sat down in the chair backwards, with the back of the chair against his chest. "Talk to her."
"About what?" Shige's face turned a deeper shade of red.
"Whatever comes to mind...this is a test...and...GO!" Ryo leaned forward a bit to analyze the conversation.

Shige turned to Runa, as his mind scrambled to find words that would form an appropriate sentence.
"Ah..ano..good afternoon..Runa-chan" he stuttered.
Ryo cringed slightly at the horrible greeting.
Runa just giggled and smiled. "Hey, Kato-kun.." Shige was almost relieved to see that this was awkward for her, too.
"Ho-..How was school today?" Shige continued, and Ryo cringed even more.
"It was really long...and kinda gloomy with the rain outside."
"Oh...yeah...that's rain...."
Ryo stood up and waved his hands at them. "Stop, stop...thanks for your help Runa-chan...I know what I need to do, you can go if you want."
Runa smiled and nodded, bowing goodbye as she reached the door. "Ganbatte, ne? Kato-kun."
Ryo sat down in the chair Runa had just gotten out of. "Kato-kun..you obviously fail when it comes to interaction. So I guess I need to fix you before you talk to another girl..trust me, it'll be less painful for all of us this way. Let's start with dance."
Shige looked at him with horror in his eyes. "D-Dance? What? Why?"
Ryo sighed with impatience. "Just do it! It's a confidence thing. If you learn to get over dancing in public, you'll be able to get over anything. Come on, just do it. It's not like you're in front of a fucking audience or something, it's just me."
Shige stood up, mortified. Yeah, just you..just the person who makes fun of everything I do..
"But there's no music"
"Then sing." Ryo smirked.
"HUH? No..I can't..no.." Shige scrambled to sit back down but Ryo kicked over the chair before he could reach it.
"I'm the teacher, and I said sing!" Ryo was enjoying this way too much.
"...I...don't know..any songs..." Shige muttered softly, avoiding eye contact.
Ryo looked at him in disbelief. "Bullshit. What teenager doesn't listen to music? What's your favorite song?"
"...Um...I don't know.." Shige mumbled.
Ryo got up and stood in front of him, his patience running thin. "More bullshit! Don't give me that 'I don't know' crap. Stop thinking about what other people think and just do it! If you want to say something, say it. If you want to do something, do it. You do have a favorite song, but it's by an unpopular band which I probably have never heard of, and you don't want to say it. Am I right?" Ryo snapped at Shige, whose head was turned away and shoulders risen, avoiding the intimidation which was magnified in the embarassing situation.
"Bull of Love.." Shige mumbled almost inaudibly.
"What? Speak up!" Ryo was still standing over him like he was an interrogator.
"Bull of Love..is my favorite song...it's by a group called SweN.."
Ryo tilted his head. "I've heard of SweN..but not that song..never heard of it." But he didn't care, he just sat down, proud that he got Shige to speak. "Okay, sing it then..and dance."
Shige felt like he was in a nightmare and he couldn't wake up. First, you embarass me, then you yell at me, and now I'm supposed to sing and dance in front of you? Why did I ever agree to do this?
Shige sighed deeply and turned bright red as he began to sing, and dance, trying as hard as he could not to look at Ryo's smirking face.

When Shige got to the part where he sang "Ima Wa" and put one hand up in the air and the other down, Ryo could not suppress the laughter any longer. He began to laugh out loud, and Shige stopped, and he wanted to die, right there. He had never felt so low.
"I'm sorry..." his laughing continued. "But...that was really funny."
Shige could not take it anymore and he grabbed his messenger bag and ran out the door.
Ryo stopped laughing as he looked towards the door. Once he returned back to reality, he realized what he had just done. For the first time in a long time, Ryo regretted what he had done. What is wrong with me? I'm supposed to be helping him and all I did was humiliate him and then laugh at it...what the hell?

The next day after school was Friday, the second day of Shige's lessons. In english that day, Shige didn't look at Ryo once. Ryo doubted that he would even show up that day, and that the deal was off. Nonetheless, he still headed towards the tutor center after school. To his surprise, he saw Shige there, with his head hung low, sitting at their table. He walked over to it slowly and Shige didn't look up.
"Kato-kun...um..I'm sorry...about yesterday...I felt really bad.." Ryo apologized, which he rarely did. But in this case, his conscience wouldn't let it go until he did so.
Shige responded with silence. He was still completely mortified from the previous day.
Ryo sighed when he didn't get a response. "How about..for today's lesson...I teach you how to dance?" he said in a gentle tone not usually associated with him.
Shige still did not respond.
Ryo stepped back and prepared himself mentally for what he was about to do. He let out a deep sigh, and pointed a backwards "L" into the air with his right hand, and did the same with his left hand.
"Gira~ Gira~ Taiyouuuu~" He pointed the backwards "L" signs into the air twice before making an arc.
Shige's eyes widened as he looked up and saw Ryo make an utter fool or himself as he sang and danced to a popular SweN song. Shige could not help it and he began to laugh. When Ryo saw this he stopped and began to laugh as well.
"See! If someone laughs at something you do, don't think of it as they're laughing at you, think that they thought that whatever you did was funny, and that that they enjoyed it." Ryo sat in the chair next to Shige. "Laugh along, and you'll be surprised how much less embarassing it can be. That's your first lesson."
Shige stared at him contemplatively. He was in utter shock at how kind Ryo was acting. "Um..Nishikido-san..why are you being so nice to me?"
"Well...it was part of the deal, right? You'd tutor me if I stopped insulting you and taught you to be popular with girls."
Shige nodded slowly. "That's right...just part of the deal."
"Alright then, let's learn to dance then shall we?"

It was Monday, after school, and Shige had left Ryo a note saying to meet him in the parking lot instead of the tutor center. So after all the cars had left the parking lot, he went over to where Shige was sitting on a rolling chair near the side wall of the school. There was a black cat sitting in front of him and Shige was stroking it's head between the ears. Ryo stopped and looked at the scene before him before shaking his head and going closer, scaring the cat away.
"What's with the cat?" Ryo questioned, wondering where the thing came from.
Shige laughed a bit at Ryo's confused expression. "It's a stray cat that I fed a few days ago during lunch break. It hurt its paw and looked very skinny so I wrapped the paw with a bandage I got from the nurse and fed it the rest of my lunch....I was still hungry but at least it was full." Shige smiled.
Ryo wasn't surprised that Shige would do something like that. After all, he was very gentle.
"Why didn't you just take it home?"
"Oh.." Shige's smile faded slightly. "I would love to...but I'm allergic."
"Oh..that sucks." Ryo wondered how they could possibly be having a conversation about a cat. Though, he did realize that he had the strangest conversations with Shige.
"Yeah..." His disappointed expression suddenly changed. "But anyway! Today the ball's back in my court. And since bookwork wasn't getting us anywhere, I decided to try a more hands-on approach. Hence why we're out here. Today we're going to learn about Newton's First Law of Motion. And this law would be....?" Shige looked at Ryo desperately hoping that he paid even the slightest attention in Physics class.
Ryo shrugged. "No idea."
Shige sighed. "Sit in the chair"
Ryo looked at him, confused, but did what he was told anyway.
"Newton's First Law of Motion is the law of inertia. Which basically says that a particle will stay at rest or continue at a constant velocity unless acted upon by an external force."
Ryo looked at him like he was speaking some foreign language.
"Or..." He put his hands on the back of the chair. "An object in motion will remain in motion until an outside force acts upon it. Like..if I were to push this chair towards that wall over there...." Shige pushed the chair as hard as he could towards the wall a few feet away.
"Hey! What the-" Ryo couldn't finish his sentence before he crashed into the wall and fell off the chair, right on his face.
Shige laughed. "See...it didn't stop before you hit the wall. The wonders of physics."
"Fuck..." Ryo sat up and glared at Shige. "You son of a b-" He stood up and at that moment Shige knew that he had to run...and run fast. So that's what he did. Shige took off running and Ryo ran after him.

As afraid as he was, Shige couldn't stop laughing as he ran. This was the most fun he'd had since he started in this school.

Ryo continued to chase him. Damn, this kid's fast. Shige looked back, smiling the biggest smile Ryo had ever seen. It was so he had no choice to smile back. Through his faint laughter, Ryo still continued to scream at him, even though he knew his words were losing effect.

Finally, Ryo caught up to Shige and tackled him to get him to stop. The contact knocked Shige's glasses off and they rolled over several times until Shige's back was laying on the freshly cut grass, and Ryo was on top of him, panting to regain his breath from running around the campus several times. Ryo sat up and Shige's looked at him awkwardly with the most beautiful two eyes Ryo had ever seen. They had always been covered by Shige's thick glasses.
"Ano...could you get off of me...Nishikido-san...I need to find my glasses.." Shige gasped out, still out of breath.
Ryo stood up and brushed the grass off of his clothes while Shige began to look for his glasses.
"Um...don't take this the wrong way or anything, but have you ever considered contacts? I think girls would like you more if they could see your eyes...girls go totally 'kyaaa!~' over guys with big round eyes like yours.." Ryo said painfully, not liking having to compliment guys on their looks.
Shige looked at him(or what looked like him, he couldn't really see). "Not really...I like glasses more I think..I guess I could try contacts though." Shige smiled.
Ryo nodded even though he knew Shige didn't see it. Ryo continued to attempt to get all the blades of grass off of his pants.
"Ah, shit.." Shige exclaimed, picking up his glasses which were broken in half.
Ryo looked over at him. "Ah-sorry...I guess that's kinda my fault isn't it.."
Shige gave him an obvious look. "Well, you were the one who tackled me..."
"Well you were the one who pushed me into the wall!" Ryo snarled.
"Don't blame me, blame physics!" Shige laughed, finding that sentence humorous.

Ryo couldn't help but laugh as well. His tutor was a few feet from him, squatting down holding a half of his glasses in each hand, and laughing about his poor attempt at...well Ryo wasn't quite sure why Shige thought it was funny. And that made it even more comical. This kid's such a dork...Ryo thought as he shook his head.

"Ne, Kato-kun, how about in order to repay you and to apologize for ruining your lesson...I'll take you to get your glasses fixed in town." Ryo proposed, figuring that it was the right thing to do...and he was having fun with Shige, a little bit more time with him wouldn't hurt. Wait..what am I saying? The right thing to do? Having fun with Kato-kun? Wanting to spend more time with him? What is wrong with me?

Shige smiled and accepted the offer. "But let me ask you one thing...do you know what inertia is now?"
Ryo nodded. "Yeah..as long as the big bump on my head is still there for the test, I think I'll be able to remember it." He chuckled.

Until he could get them fixed, Shige had to put the glasses together somehow...so he taped the center with some masking tape he found laying around. Ryo couldn't stop laughing at him because the tape made Shige look a thousand times dorkier. Shige didn't really let it get to him though. He decided to practice what Ryo had told him, and Shige laughed it off. To his surprise, it actually worked. Hey..maybe he knows what he's talking about after all.

End of Chapter 3.

A/N: The story's progressing ^^ it's gonna get good soon :D I hope you like it ^^ lol SweN...XD "Bull of Love"...wow. I'm so cheesy, gomen~ I had to add the "Ima Wa" dance in there somewhere.
