Chapter 5
Sure, he wasn't expecting You to be calling him the next day but still, 4 days after their talk and no sign whatsoever, Gackt was getting inpatient. So he figured one more trip to the Philharmonic couldn't hurt. If he wasn't getting a call next day than he had to do something. In the meantime, ChaCha was being more and more insistent about the song. For a while he had managed to quiet everyone down with a new composition. After all, he was Gackt and if he wanted to he could write ten more songs and get them right. Just that one song was refusing to listen to him. It had never happened before in his life and he wasn't going to let it happen now.
But the next day, he did get that phone call, only it wasn't from the person he had expected. Instead of You, his friend, Ryosuke.
"Gackt-san, I'm sorry if I'm intruding. This is Nakamura Ryosuke, we met before at the Philarmonic Orchestra. My friend, Kurosaki You, gave me your number. I hope you don't mind me calling."
"Of course not, Nakamura-kun. What can I do for you?"
"Actually, I understand that you've asked my friend to help you find the violinist you've been searching for. Well, Kurosaki-kun thought that if it were I, I'd have a better chance so he asked me to help. I hope it's okay with you."
"Yes, of course, I'm just sorry to bother you."
"It's no bother at all. I've set up an audition with all the violinists in the Philharmonic. It is going to take a whole day probably to listen to them all, but if your violinist is with the Orchestra, you'll surely be able to find him.
"You leave me speechless, Nakamura-kun. Thank you very much. When will it be okay to have that listening?"
"How about in 2 days from now? Are you available?"
"Yes, I'll be there, thank you so much."
"Your welcome, Gackt-san. See you the day after tomorrow."
When the conversation was over, Gackt was left speechless. He couldn't quite believe that the boy he had rejected was willing to help him this much. Gackt knew how difficult it must have been to get the violinists to audition. And he was sure that in two days he'd find the right person. He was happy, that is a big part of his heart was happy, the other one was telling him not to get his hopes up and that the person he was looking for wasn't there.
And then the dream came again.
..........
The same forest, the same lake only this time everything was covered in a thick layer of fog. You couldn't see a feet ahead of you. And he got a bit scared and anxious and then the same music started playing. It seemed to be coming from right in front of him so he started walking and walking and then running and eventually, in the mist he could see a silhouette, a thin tall man playing the violin. He was enveloped in the fog but he was so close. And still no matter how hard Gackt run he couldn't catch him. Instead of shortening the distance it just grew bigger and bigger until the man was gone and Gackt fell to his knees, tears streaming from his eyes, afraid.
...........
Gackt woke up abruptly and indeed tears had formed in the corners of his eyes and his heart was beating like mad. He took a cold shower, he knew there was no hope of going back to sleep then, and just hoped that he'll finally find who he was searching for, only this time he had a thorn in his chest, wondering if he'd ever find him.
Just like my love life. I just keep chasing after it and never reach it., Gackt thought.
The two days passed really quick and there he was sitting on a chair on the Philharmonic's stage, listening to one violinist after the other, getting disappointed every time. Most of them could indeed follow his song and even improvise a bit but that was it. As soon as he stopped, most of them stopped too, waiting to hear his judgment. Only 2 or 3 of them could actually improvise after but Gackt knew and probably they did too that it didn't sound right. Something was missing, maybe the feelings behind the song. He had placed so many feelings in that piece.
He had written it after completing his first big tour. He had loved the atmosphere, the fans, the adrenaline, the whole experience, but it had also been a huge burden on his body and mind. Everything had to be perfect for his fans, he loved doing it for them but still, he was so exhausted sometimes. He had written it in one of this times so many feelings had been put in that single piece. Melancholy, happiness, sorrow, love. He knew it was one of the best he had ever written and it pained him that he had realized afterwards, through that dream, that it was incomplete. He didn't know why, why a duet was necessary since he probably wouldn't be able to find someone to match that piece anyway, he thought now, while listening to all those violinists. In order to match that piece he had to find someone that had thought exactly the same thoughts at himself, that shared his feelings to a certain extent, without being the same person, adding something new to it, completing it. Gackt had tried completing it by himself. The feelings were still there, buried somewhere deep, the anxiety, but now there was also this small amount of fear and no matter how much he tried he couldn't get it right. And it angered him. It hurt not only his pride but also his feelings, with every day that passed.
And the audition was certainly not helping...Three hours and 20 people later the audition was finally over and indeed he hadn't found him.
"I'm so sorry, Gackt-san. Maybe he isn't with the Philharmonic after all.", Nakamura said.
"It seems so, doesn't it...", Gackt replied.
"Why did you think he was playing here?", Nakamura asked.
"One time I was here I heard exactly the song I'm looking for, coming from the rehearsal rooms but when I went to go and check he had left already."
"Oh, I see. Can you really not use another violinist?", Nakamura asked.
"No, I'm afraid I can't. Thank you for your help, Nakamura-kun. I guess that song is just gonna stay incomplete."
The boy really looked sorry for Gackt. He kept biting his lower lip as if wanting to say something but keeping himself back.
"I'm sure it will be ok in the end", Gackt said. "By the way, how is Kurosaki-kun?"
When mentioning You, Gackt thought he saw a little sparkle in the boy's eyes, but it was gone immediately so Gackt thought he was only imagining things.
"Oh, he's just fine. I'm sure he'll be glad to hear you asked about him. In fact, we're throwing a small party tonight. It's his birthday. I'm sure he'd love it if you came but he just doesn't dare to ask...", the boy said.
"Oh, really?! I'd be glad to come. I just hope it really is a small party since if there's a crowd..."
"I understand. Being famous has its disadvantages doesn't it?"
"Yes, it does. So what hour should I be there?" Gackt asked.
"The gathering starts at about 10 in the envening but you can come anytime you're free. Here's the address." Nakamura said and handed Gackt a piece of paper with the address written on it. "Truth is, I was thinking of inviting you so I wrote it in advance.", he said while blushing.
Gackt thought he was really nice and cute, so he was indeed looking forward to the evening, even more so when he thought that he'd see You again. He had liked him more than Nakamura actually, maybe because Gackt thought there was something about You that he needed to find out but didn't know exactly what yet.
"Thank you so much for your help today, Nakamura-san. I'm looking forward to seeing you at the party today.", Gackt said.
The boy blushed again and the answered.
"I'm just sorry I couldn't be of more help. See you tonight then. Oh, you can bring a date if you want..."
Gackt smiled at seeing the pink turn into a nice shade of red on the boy's cheeks and answered.
"No, I'll be coming alone this time."
And Gackt thought he saw a sparkle in the boy's eyes again. He seemed to be liked quite a lot. But he wasn't exactly looking for a romance at the moment, he had more important things at mind and although Nakamura was beautiful he was still a man and although Gackt couldn't say he was the straightest man on the planet, a normal relationship with a woman was certainly easier to handle. Being a celebrity, if the press would actually find out about him having a relationship with a man, there would be chaos. And Gackt really loved his career at the moment, and his life, free and without attachments. So although he was sure he could start something with Nakamura he rather preferred not getting into complications. He was certainly looking forward to the evening though.
