Title: Falling in love with a fox
Chapter:11/?
Pairing: Ruki/Kai, Ruka/Yomi
Warnings: manXman love
Rating: PG-13 for this chapter, goes up to NC-17
Genre: Angst, Romance, AU - like really AU
Disclaimer: I am not connected to the real persons. This is just a figment of my imagination and I don't make any money nor profit in any way out of this (well, except gathering your love that is).

Summary: Ruki is supposed to woe a rich heiress and instead he ends up breaking all the rules he has ever known just for love.

Notes: Until now it has been a Nightmare centered fic but from now on it is Gazette centered. I highly recommend reading the previous parts in order to understand Ruki's reasons and what he is fighting and why he does some of the things he does, although it is not really necessary. From here on the story is 90% independent. I'll make a short summary for those who just start reading this at the end of the chapter.

PS: I'm a comment addict so...give me some sugar. Hope you like it! Hugs.

Rest of the chapters are in my Fic Archive.

Chapter 11

Ruki was happy to hear the news about Yomi and Ruka not only making it out alive, together and unharmed but also actually changing all the kitsune’s orders and plans. He hadn’t even thought about Ruka being anything more than a mere human and he couldn’t imagine a Yomi threatening the elders with his and Ruka’s powers. It was a little bit hard to believe even when he went to their house and saw them so much in love and happy together, all shadows gone for good. He was happy for them, extremely happy but at the same time there was a constant pain in his chest, because he had that too, that kind of love that out-shadows everything, the kind of love that lasts an eternity, but he didn’t have an eternity like Ruka and Yomi, he only had today left…

Lately he had caught himself remembering his life. He came to call his life the moment he was sent into the human world because before that, he couldn’t even remember himself before that, before falling so much in love...

…………………………………………

How did he get the stupidest jobs around? Ruki couldn’t answer that question. He knew he was only a two-tailed fox so it wasn’t like he could get the job to save the world or anything but still, did the elders have to torture him like that? What could be worse than having to seduce a spoiled heiress and having to become one of those girly, dolly visual kei artists in order to do so? The answer: nothing. He was doomed. And the elders’ orders were absolute.

It was pretty easy for him to get into a band. He had the looks and the moves and furthermore he had the voice so after auditioning he got to be the vocalist in this brand new band. The first time he met the members he was a bit disappointed, well, he was expecting some vain, weird characters that wear make-up even not on stage and have questionable tastes in clothing. What met his eyes were just normal humans, well excepting this long blond beauty named Uruha who he knew for a fact was a guardian and therefore not human at all. But, except Uruha, every single one was average. Aoi was a geek, Kai was just plain, and Reita was a bit shy. Those were his first impressions of his band members and the first month didn’t change much those first impressions.

He had to admit they were good together. The music flowed and they had chemistry. And with a bolder Uruha to drag Reita and Aoi along to bars and parties and well, practically everywhere, the relationships in the band evolved. Even Ruki tagged along and got to know more about the others. Aoi was just sweet. He could lose his temper quite easily but other than that he practically spent his time trying to joke around and pick up girls. Yes, he and Uruha were quite alike in that. Reita seemed shy at first but as soon as he put this weird noseband on, which would be around their second week together, he got more extrovert and easier to talk to. Ruki liked Reita. They somehow seemed to click together and he figured in time they could become the best of friends. Kai was the mysterious one though. Even if he joined the others in their outings he was always the levelheaded one, at practice he was the bandleader so everyone listened to him, he was nice and he cared for them but he didn’t seem to try to develop the relationship further than that. All in all, he liked his band mates though. They were decent enough for humans, Ruki thought.

He never forgot about his assignment though so when it was time to goof around in a club or something he would always convince them to this new club he heard about, which just happened to be where the heiress should be. He had tried for weeks making some sort of contact with her but it had all been fruitless. He hadn’t managed to meet her once and he was getting anxious. More so, because he found he was really starting to like the band and making music. It was certainly weaving its way into his very being and he wasn’t sure he’d be able to give it up anymore if he were requested to. That’s why he needed to get the job done fast. In a month or so, they’d be having their first lives and Ruki just had a hunch he’d get even more hooked up at that.

So he was thrilled when he coincidentally spotted her in a club. They had gone there for drinks. Uruha and Aoi were already half drunk, grinding themselves on the dance floor, Kai was enjoying conversation with the bartender (Ruki wondered how come) and Ruki and Reita had just been talking when, all of a sudden, Ruki spotted her exiting the club in the company of a man. It was a chance to at least get to know her so he quickly told Reita he wanted to go out for a bit and he wanted to be alone and he followed the girl.

That was a stupid move, Ruki found out pretty soon. The heiress was in the back of the club, obviously buying drugs from the guy accompanying her. The dealer was a massive, muscle-packed guy who felt immediately that someone was looking at them so he quickly turned around and before Ruki could even move, grabbed him by the collar and pushed him against the wall.

“What do you want, pipsqueak?” he almost growled at Ruki.

“I just came out for a smoke.” Ruki tried lying but to his bad luck the girl recognized him.

“Oh, you’re one of daddy’s new toys, aren’t you? You’re in this new band I’ve heard a lot about lately. You see: I’m crazy about nice looking guys like you on stage. But are you here to spy on me? Because if that were the case I wouldn’t like you anymore and daddy would lose an asset.”

“Of course not. I just came out for a smoke. Nice to meet you, Megumi-san.” Only then did Ruki realize his blunder. He wasn’t supposed to know her name.

“And how do you now her name?” the dealer asked, sparks lighting up in his eyes.

Ruki tried to lie.

“She just said she was the daughter of the boss. Of course I know her name.”

But they didn’t seem convinced.

“Ok then, I’ll let you off if you prove to me you’re not a spy. I want you to taste this for me.” She showed him the drugs. “You see, they’re some new merchandize and I really hate to taste it all alone. This way we would become friends. I’m sure I’d love to see more of you along daddy’s office too…”

Ruki was in a pinch. He refused to take the drugs. No person in their right mind would actually do that especially in this kind of situations. And no fox in the right mind would accept him again if he decided to comply. But if he refused, the consequences could be…

But still, Ruki had his dignity.

“Sorry, but I’m not into that.” He said firmly.

Megumi just grinned and replied.

“Well, you just broke my little heart. And to pay you back, I’ll brake something of yours too.”

And the dealer grabbed his hand and started turning it. Ruki could feel the pain getting stronger and stronger by the minute and he knew in just a few seconds his arm would be broken if he didn’t do something. So he tried to gather strength and push the gorilla away but that didn’t work. Not with one hand trapped. So he kicked the man right in the groin. That might have been a good move if the guy would have let go of his arm but the guy just slouched down for a few brief moments, not letting go, if possible actually grabbing Ruki harder.

If only he could use his hoshi no tama. But he needed to concentrate hard for that and he was in no position to do that with the pain that was shooting through his arm. He could almost hear his bones beginning to crack and he thought he was a goner when he heard a voice that chilled him to the soul.

“Get your hands off him, you fuck!”

Ruki glanced to the side only to see Kai. But it was a side of Kai he had never seen before. It was as if their angelic, more than peaceful drummer had suddenly taken some demon potion or something because there was this scowl on his face and fire in his eyes. Anyone in their right minds would have avoided Kai the moment they laid eyes on him. But the guy gripping Ruki was obviously not in his right mind because he just twisted Ruki’s hand harder, smirking when Ruki screamed and said calmly to Kai.

“So what are you gonna do if I don’t.”

Kai didn’t bother answering. With a motion fast as lightning he had his hand on the bully’s arm and was jerking him off Ruki. The vocalist couldn’t imagine the kind of force Kai had exerted if he managed to free him so easily when Ruki had struggled so much.
Kai didn’t stop there though. He gave the guy the same treatment. He grabbed his arm and in one swift motion twisted it behind his back until Ruki could hear the bones making this disturbing sound and he guessed Kai had broken the man’s arm. Sure enough the guy screamed, both from pain and anger, but he didn’t back off. Instead he took out a small knife and while Kai wasn’t paying attention, tried to stab Kai. Lucky for the drummer he caught the glint of the blade just in time to barely avoid the hit and the knife just grazed his arm. Kai had had the intention to walk away after breaking the man’s arm but it seemed that wasn’t enough so instead, after disarming the gorilla, he punched him hard in the stomach and then delivered another heavy punch in the man’s jaw, powerful enough to leave the guy unconscious. And then, still fuming with anger he approached Megumi who had been watching in awe and fright from the corner, too paralyzed to move. He trapped her against the wall putting his hands on both sides of her face and saying slowly, venom dripping from his tongue.

“If you ever, ever come near him again, or any of the Gazette members for that matter, I will personally break your neck. Now scram!”

And the girl didn’t need to be told twice. As soon as he let her go she fled, leaving the two of them alone in the alley.

Ruki was almost afraid of this new Kai so he breathed relief when Kai turned to face him and he found the same drummer he had started to know: the gentle Kai. His words were gentle too.

“Come on, Ruki-kun, I’ll take you home.”

Ruki just nodded. None of them said anything during the car ride to Ruki’s apartment. Ruki invited Kai in, Kai sat on the sofa, Ruki brought Kai something to drink, the usual formalities. Ruki was actually wondering why Kai was still there yet, he was wondering if he’d have to face a questioning, when Kai spoke.

“Ruki, take off your shirt.”

Final notes: Ruki is not human. He is a kitsune. Basically the kitsune are pretty much tired of humans screwing everything up and they have just the perfect way to turn everything according to their wish. Long story short (what the first paragraphs mean) Ruka and Yomi manage to turn everything around. Being a two-taled fox, you might have figured this out from this chapter: he is not very powerful (foxes the older and stronger they get, the more tails they grow). White, nine-tailed foxes are the most powerful: that would be Yomi.
